Billy Idol, "Dancing With Myself"
Like I wasn't going to include it after naming the thread after it.
How can anyone resist the urge to dance when hearing this song?
The Divinyls, "I Touch Myself"
This one is much more fun if you can find someone else, but it's still a great song to dance to even if you can't.
Mr. Bungle's cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U"
Ok ... this one is sort of bizarre, I admit. I think Mr. Bungle is fun to dance to and somehow their live cover of this song is absolutely wonderful for it. This is a cover of the Sinead O'Conner song by the same name, by the way.
Prince and the New Power Generation, "Cream"
Ooh-la-la. Am I the only Prince lover here? If I had an idol, Prince might be it. Androgynous sexuality in its perfection.
Madonna, "Borderline"
Ok, I don't dance well to this. I probably make a fool of myself, but I have so much fun doing so. Madonna is great. I hope when historians really start thinking about this era, they realize the impact of women like here in liberating women from Victorian sexual mores.
Pavement, "No Life Singed Her"
I could be wrong about the title. It's either track 2 or 3 from Slanted & Enchanted. It's the one with the screaming at the beginning. This is just a really fun song. Brings out one's playful side. I guess my dancing style would be just to be real playful when this is played.
The B-52s, "Hot Pants Explosion!"
Who couldn't love a song about hot pants?
The Cars, "Touch and Go"
I love new wave. And this is definitely danceable.
Roxy Music, "The Thrill of It All"
Another goodie.
Christian Death, "This Mirage"
I have some sort of ability to dance to stuff that no one else would ever think of dancing to. I'm not sure if this qualifies, but it's at least borderline. My goal in life is to find someone who will dance with me to this song.
"This Mirage" is the oddest Christian Death song I believe I have ever heard (though, keep in mind, I pretty much ignore everything from the post-Rozz era). I've played this song to some of my friends who didn't realize it was Christian Death when they first heard it. But it's a great song. Shows you the band's versatility.
Talking Heads, "Psycho Killer"
I don't know if anyone else can dance to the Talking Heads or if it's just me. I guess David Byrne can if nothing else. I love dancing to the Talking Heads exactly because their songs are a little offbeat and eccentric.
Opera IX, "The Naked and the Sun"
Ok, ... this is where I get really weird. I can dance to black metal and very much enjoy it and have never met anyone else who dances to it. I have a lot of fucking energy though and black metal is perfect dancing music for me because of this absurd energy.
I love the lead singer's voice in Opera IX. Not only this one of my songs to dance to, it's one of three songs I listen to before working out to pump myself up (just in case you're wondering, the other two are Emperor's, "I Am the Black Wizards" and Christian Death's, "Electra Descending". )
Outcast, "Bombs Over Baghdad"
This song wouldn't have made my list two weeks ago, because quite frankly, I don't associate rap with dancing. But I was really drunk one night and my sister's friend who only listens to rap put it in the CD player (it was a compromise - not much other modern rap I'll listen to) and apparently I can dance to this one real well, because of the quick pace of it. And for some reason, everyone who was with me that night told me I should be a stripper.
That would be a good way to pay for law school, I suppose. For some reason, my dermatologist once made a comment about thinking I'd be a stripper one day (lol), but I wasn't sure if he was joking or serious.
Suspiria, "Allegedly, Dancefloor Tragedy"
Damn, the CD this is on has been on my damned Amazon.com wishlist for 5 years now. I think it's finally time to buy it, if they even still make it. Or if anyone has a copy, maybe you'd be willing to let me burn it.
In any case, this isn't the funnest song to dance to on the list but for some reason, I really like it. But I have to be in the right mood to dance to it.
David Bowie, "China Girl", "Let's Dance", and "Modern Love"
I can't listen to one without the rest. But after these three songs, the rest of the album, Let's Dance, sucks! But these are definitely near the top of my list of danceable songs.
David Bowie, "Station to Station"
Who doesn't love this song? Definitely one of my favorite songs to dance to and it has the best all-time line in a song, "It's not the side effects of the cocaine, I'm thinking that it must be real love." I just get all starry-eyed everytime I hear that (not that I'm not like that anyway).
... and finally,
David Bowie, "John, I'm Only Dancing"
My favorite song of all time!
She turns me on, but I'm only dancing.
