Use of Animated Avatars on KG

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Use of Animated Avatars on KG

Post by Bone »

Okay as much as I love many of the animated avatars here on KG, most of them are WAY too large for use here.
Due to the fact we still have MANY dial-up users on KG, avatar sizes are limited to 128x128 pixels and 40KB in file size.
90% of the animated avatars currently on KG DO NOT fit these regulations.

Please be kind to the dial-up users on KG and make sure your avatar fits the allowed sizes. Loading large avatar sizes makes for unnessicarly long page load times.

If avatar sizes are not adhered to we will have to start pulling peoples avatars, disallow animated avatars, or not allowing offsite avatar hosting (in order to filter non regulation sizes from use). None of which we want to do, but will if we have to.

Thanks

Merc, you are fine

for those with sigs
Signatures should be no more than 75X468 pixels, with a file size no larger than 40KB.

If you have a question if your avatar or sig picture is within spec
right click your avatar or sig picture and select properties from the pull down menu (for PC users) or click and hold for pull down menu and select properties (for Mac users)
This will tell you both image dimensions as well as file size.

Thanks

And I've been complaining about oversize avatars for quite a while now. For some reason nobody listens, and I'm getting tired of it.

Junkie: Your avatar was 49K. You should know better. (note I say "was" 49K. It's zero now. :))

ok, trashed more for karmakaze, The Lizard Princess...

I'm going away now. If your avatars and signatures aren't fixed SOON I'm going to make drastic changes in the way we handle avatars on here.

Oh, lighten up Johnathan. :P

The moral of this story is that we put these rules in place for a reason. Not everyone has broadband and I think we forget how anoying waiting on a page to load graphics can be on 56K.
