hey monophonic, what host are you using? why?

I've been using Cubase SX 2 for awhile now. I bought the Steinberg MI4 audio interface because I wanted a more portable recording solution for my laptop. SX 2 has been rock solid for me though, never had it crash once, and I've stressed the fuck out of it.

It came with a bible sized manual to dig into as well. The only downside to it is that because of copyright protection, I can't start SX 2 without the MI4 hooked up. It kind of acts as a "dongle" for the software. Steinberg needs to get a new protection scheme bad. Dongles suck, and I hate being a registered user looking around warez sites for cracks to get around the protection. I don't always feel like having my MI4 with me.

I use FLstudio Producer 5 for most of my drum programming and sketch pad ideas. Just because I think they have the easiest sequencer to deal with out of all the software I have. I also use Reason 3 for drums too. The Reason user community is pretty rabid. I've found so many awesome drum kits and refills on forums out there. Man, how I wish someone would code a vst drum module that could import Redrum kits. I'd be in heaven.

btw, for you people looking at the audiophile 192, backup your computer first. installing it corrupted my windows (which lead to bad sectors in a harddrive making it incapable of running an OS)....

man, i'm jealous. did you do the mod yourself? because i happen to have a 505. i've been looking at all the circuit bent stuff on ebay for about a year now. i've seen sk-1's, speak and spells, ect... you can coax some really strange sounds out of those things.

but im not admitting some of my secret weapons either, just oddball synths ive found.
in no order, just the frist ones that enter my head.......

1)vanguard is probably my overused at the moment because im trying to reprogram my own user bank in it for a project... .
2)novakill synths (they are all close to the same so i count them all as one) esp lovekiller and the new neokiller. but they are a goddamned resource hog. simon says "freeze track"
3)the korg legacy collection. the vst collection is worth every penny..
4)tapeworm. i mean i really use that fucker alot.got da tapewormmmmmm
5)guitar rig.
6)model - e. i wont say why.
7)orchestral. der.
minerva. static snare.. static snare.. that causes a sub hit.. static snare... granular drums own you. in a pinch, it fixes percussion problems with the (!!!)
9) evm synths. obvious.
10) reason for redrum.

i just started playing with reactor so gimme a lil bit on it.
there are a few great synths im not naming. i wish i could, but i use the presets on them too much.

yea, I just put 3 toggle switches on the back. I can't remember what taps I did 'cause I moded it years ago. One switch "overdrives" the snare. Another switch distorts everthing slightly. The third should have a label that says "Do Not Touch", because it makes a lot of random rythmic noise that's pretty uncontrolable.

finally.... someone has coded a refill unpacker for reason. i found this while browsing a dutch music forum today. the documentation is very vauge though. all it had to say was this:

1. you must be using Reason 3.0 or higher

2. place the .exe in the same directory as the orkester refill.

after a little testing, i must say that it works with some refills better than others. hopefully we'll keep seeing updates to this.
