"Cathedrals" by Jump, Little Children. It's a very simple song, but so so so beautiful.

In the shadows of tall buildings
Of fallen angels on the ceilings
Oily feathers in bronze and concrete
Faded colors, pieces left incomplete
The line moves slowly past the electric fence
Across the borders between continents

In the cathedrals of New York and Rome
There is a feeling that you should just go home
And spend a lifetime finding out just where that is

In the shadows of tall buildings
The architecture is slowly peeling
Marble statues and glass dividers
Someone is watching all of the outsiders
The line moves slowly through the numbered gate
Past the mosaic of the head of state

In the cathedrals of New York and Rome
There is a feeling that you should just go home
And spend a lifetime finding out just where that is

In the shadows of tall buildings
Of open arches endlessly kneeling
Sonic landscapes echoing vistas
Someone is listening from a safe distance
The line moves slowly into a fading light
A final moment in the dead of night

In the cathedrals of New York and Rome
There is a feeling that you should just go home
And spend a lifetime finding out just where that is
If she were a street gang, I'd go to war with her with bottles and chains.

Damn this thread is old.
Anyway, this song brought a tear to my eye once or twice.

Nine Inch Nails:
"all that could have been"

breeze still carries the sound
maybe i’ll disappear
tracks will fade in the snow
you won’t find me here

ice is starting to form
ending what had begun
i am locked in my head
with what i’ve done
I know you tried to rescue me
didn’t let anyone get in
left with a trace of all that was
and all that could have been

please
take this
and run far away
far away from me
I am
tainted
the two of us
were never meant to be
all these
pieces
and promises and left behinds
if only I could see
in my
nothing
you meant everything
everything to me
gone fading everything
and all that could have been

please
take this
and run far away
far as you can see
I am
tainted
and happiness and peace of mind
were never meant for me
all these
pieces
and promises and left behinds
if only I could see
in my
nothing
you meant everything
everything to me

I assume most of you have never heard the first movement from "moonlight sonata" by beethoven. It is truly the saddest piece of music ever written, at least that I've heard.

Portishead ~ roads.... it is a good driving song, especially when you need to think and cry.

and V.A.S.T. ~ Flames... beautiful song.

close your eyes
let me touch you now
let me give you something that is real
close the door
leave your fears behind
let me give you what you're giving me
you are the only thing
that makes me want to live at all
when i am with you
there's no reason to pretend that
when i am with you
i feel flames again
just put me inside you
i would never ever leave
just put me inside you
i would never ever leave you
Fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity.

Ok...

"Jake", by Lisa Loeb...If you've heard it, at a sad moment in your life...You cried...I will say this...There are only 4 people in this state to see me cry...But I have cried more times to this song...Than I probably have over the last 10 years without it...

Lyrics:

"I'm going as far as I can go...
Away from here...
Away from you, Jake, & the hole you sunk me into...
I wish that I could belong here with you, & just be..
But that's not all that I'm about...
You're life is built on accidents, like meeting me...
You write everything down in your grocery list...
People do this...
Even insects, buzz like airplanes...
Why can't we...Fly away...
I'm going as far as I can go...
You're dad died, 'cause his heart hurt...
Aching away...
45 years, dragging your mom along...
Well I don't want that, & neither do you...Neither do you...
If I am not fun...
& I am not intresting...
Perhaps I am not interested in you...
& neither are you...
You can't stand in front of an oven, if it's warm...
'Cause the fumes are dangerous...

I'm going as far as I can go...
I wish that I could belong here with you...
& just be...
But that's not all that I'm about...To do..."

Slowdives Spanish air and Eriks song

Spanish air
Screams that seem unreal
Shouts follow the sins
There's nothing here for me now
The wind blows for as far as I can see
I long for the sun
The midland air
For all that I have
There's written in waves
I know that now
There's left to be seen
I know that I've lost him
I'm leaving here
Fastest knife a sign
Feels so far away
There's nothing here for me now
The clouds fly, so far
I'm lost there now
I long for the sun
The midland air
For all that I have
Is written in waves
And now that I [...know...]
Is left to be seen
And now that I've lost him
I'm leaving here
The only antidote to mental suffering is physical pain.

Radiohead - A Reminder

or maybe it's just that way for me....

If I get old, I will not give in
And if I do, remind me of this
Remind me that once I was free
Once I was cool, once I was me
And if I sit down and cross my arms
Hold me to this song

Knock me out smash out my brains
If I take the chair and talk the shit

If I get old, remind me of this
One night we kissed, and I really meant it
Whatever happens, if we're still speaking
Pick up the phone
Play me this song
I masturbate to ronald mc donald's pictures every night while listening to 'like a virgin' by madonna

A song that can still bring tears to my eyes, goosebumps on my flesh, and chills up my spine is a song called "Missing", by Evanescence. I really love her voice on that one. Another song is "Walking and Thinking" by RA. Maybe those can be played at my funeral one day.
Live for today, it may be your last.

sad fucking songs

Post by failure »

Two of the saddest songs I've heard are: Smashing pumpkins cover of Fleetwood Macs landslide, and saves the day- nightingale

nightingale

And I will flail under these lights,
that seep down from the bitter sky tonight
and I will kick and beat my wrists together
and feel an ocean breathing waves, feel them licking at my face.

Ceilings don't exist and there are no floors beneath me.
If I were king of this night, would you become my queen?

And I hope, your majesty that you like your position.
I'll do everything I can to keep you by my side
and I'll stare off through the darkness to find us a kingdom.
Just kiss me before I go.

I'll have to walk a thousand miles
just to find the ground deserving of your feet.
You could throw me down and walk on me
and I'd just look on through my love and through the haze.

And I hope, your majesty that you like your position.
I'll do everything I can to keep you by my side
and I'll stare off through the darkness to find us a kingdom.
Just kiss me before I go.

The nightingales are singing now.
They're calling out our marriage to our subjects on their knees.
Their jewelery is thrown into the air.
They sigh at their release as their shackles hit the ground.
The trumpets call out now, we're home at last.

And I hope, your majesty that you like your position.
I'll do everything I can to keep you by my side
and I'll stare off through the darkness to find us a kingdom.
Just kiss me before I go.
If this bottle had a trigger, I'd take another shot.

to many to name but heres one

Candlemass-Mourner's Lament

Let me stay here by your side
be one with you my precious child
Let me cover your bed with tears
I will save you from all fears
I burn the candles for your soul
I sing you prayers as the preacher told
I bring you flowers, I dress in black
though I know this cannot give you back

[Chorus]

I sleep by your shadow
remembering your light
In my heart
I'm with you every night
Far goes your journey
into the unknown
wherever you might be
be well my son [1st Time: you are my son]
Why just you my flesh and blood
I cannot live nor understand
my dearest treasure to be found
six feet under in sacred ground
Watch me bleed you lucky ones
I envy you your living sons
I'll give mine the strength of my faithful breath
I will mourn him to my death

[Chorus]

Rest in peace

[Repeat 1st Verse]

[Chorus]
"The way you offend other members for their opinion is simply unrefined and unsocial."

"Kodou" - Dir en Grey

"The Light and the Glass" and "In Keeping Secrets of a Silent Earth" - Coheed and Cambria

"Good Riddance" (it would be more affective if it wasn't so damn overplayed) and "Holiday" (because its depressingly true) - Green Day

Sorry, I'll have to go all Irish on ya:

Steeleye Span:
The Parting Glass

Of all the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that e'er I've done,
Alas it was to none but me.
And all I've done
For want of wit,
To memory now I can't recall.
So fill to me this parting glass,
Goodnight and joy be with you all.

Of all the comrades e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away,
And all the sweethearts e'er I had,
They'd wish me one more day to stay.
But since it falls into my lot
That I should rise and they should not,
I gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be with you all.

If I had money enough to spend
And leisure time to sit awhile,
There is a man in this town
That surely has my heart beguiled.
His lonely eyes,
His quiet mouth,
I own he has my heart in thrall,
So fill to me this parting glass,
Goodnight and joy be with you all.

That's a toss up between several old country and folk songs I remember mostly from when I was a kid in elementary school:

    1. "Barbry [Barbara] Allen" -- an old folk song my mom sang about a guy who dies of a broken heart because Barbry won't take him back, so that then Barbry dies of a broken heart when she realized she loved him. At least the flowers on there graves grew around each other as their love was still alive (ahhh, that part's so sweet).

    2. "I'll Be True to You" -- Oak Ridge Boys : Girls swears eternal love to guy who's basically dumping her. Years later they meet again by luck and he's not interested, so she drinks herself to death. Afterward guy falls crying on her grave and swears he now be true to her in honor of her love.

"She'd been drink'n way to hard one night
She'd been drink'n way to long
Alone and pale, in a cheap motel,
She died there in the dawn.
Kneeling by her grave oh so late and oh so wrong,
He longed to hold her close again, crying on and on."

    3. "What's Your Mamma's Name" -- Jennifer Werner : A guy lcomes back from WWII looking for his old love, who has moved, and his daughter. He gives up everything and spends his whole life looking, but never find them. No one knows what is going on until the pick his corpse out of the gutter 30 years later and found the letter about his daughter's birth.

    4. "Bitter Green" -- Gordon Lightfoot : girl in green dress thinks her lover has been lost at sea, so she dies of a broken heart. He survives and comes home, only to find her grave.

"But now the bitter green is gone,
The hills are turned to rust.
    Yon comes a weary [???]
His tears fall in the dust.
    Kneeling in the churchyard
    In the Autumn mist
    Dreaming of a kiss."

To me, those songs go beyond merely sad to literally depressing (as in, hearing them makes me feel seriously).
