Not very surprising, and not likely to discourage the die-hard gamers out there, but apparently the Blu Ray drives in the PS3's are costing Sony more than $100 per console.
Then again, for the ability to run a 25GB disc, (and they say they'll be 50GB if/when the dual-layer comes out...) I'd say it's worth it...

well, you can always wait until the price goes down... that's what i did with the ps2.
also, i've noticed that sony's playstation consoles have suffered from... issues in their first (and sometimes second) generations.
like the ps2 not being able to load dvds, but being able to load ps2 and ps1 games fine.
or vice versa.
mine's run like a champ, but i waited until revision 3 or 4 came out before i bought one.

oh man, bad memories. i got a ps1 w/ 3 games on launch day and ended up taking it back to be replaced not once, but twice. the laser was faulty and making my games go all glitchtastic, stuttering and freezing.
i ended up with a rev.1 ps2 also and it still spazzes out on certain dvds. the games play fine though. i hope they are taking their sweet time ironing out the ps3.
i think the next system i will invest in is the xgamestation:

i've always had a hard-on for retro systems (atari/turbografx/ect..) and have been teaching myself programming for the past couple of years. the thought of developing old school games on a custom hardware system floats my boat.
