not a big fan of lieberman's blue sunshine or squirm...but i adore his underrated slasher just before dawn....which is why i'm so glad to see jeff's return to the genre w/ satan's little helper...

http://www.satanslittlehelper.com/slh.html

Story centers around a naïve young boy who uknowingly becomes the pawn of a serial killer on halloween(who he thinks is the star of his favorite video game...satan)...

long weekend-the australian classic(along w/ weir's picnic at hanging rock & last wave) finally comes to dvd....

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... 63-7785565

"A careless vacationing couple in Australia start a
forest fire, run over a kangaroo, destroy a tree,
shoot an animal for sport, and break an eagle's egg,
and Mother Nature really gets ticked off"

SAW just doesn't seem as good as I remember it a year ago.
The Uncut edition that came out yesterday really doesn't have much extra to offer that wasn't already on the first DVD release. There is not much more gore that was left out to get an R rating, which is really the only reason I bought it.
The one scene where Amanda cuts the key out of the guy's stomach has a couple extra shots with her dangling stomach and intestines, but that's about all you get from what I saw. I read somewhere that this version is actually a bit shorter than the theatrical version, with small bits of some scenes cut to make the pace seem faster. I haven't compared the two to know if that's true or not. There is some extra stuff for SAW 2 including a movie trailer, which after having seen, I have pretty low expectations.

This is the version I've been waiting to see, and I'm very happy with what I got.
Man, there seems like a lot was left out of the R version. Flesh ripping, intestine chewing, eyeball sucking, you name it. This feels more like a Romero zombie flick than what I saw in the theatre.
This one was totally worth the purchase.

Hell House
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0301235/

This is a documentary on Trinity Church (Assemblies of God) in Cedar Hill, Texas. Every Halloween the church puts together a "Judgment House" to scare thousands of visitors into accepting Jesus and joining the church or risk eternal damnation in hell. Members of the youth group rehearse and perform scenes of rape, incest, drug use, and burning in hell. Sounds more fun than your typical spook house, but without the research.
What is sad and stupid is the fact that these people are almost completely removed from outside culture and have little understanding of the majority of what they are damning as being wrong (Harry Potter, Magic the Gathering, etc.) A father speaks with his daughter of doing a rape scene, and discusses being a violent abusive father character.
In reality his wife left him for someone on the internet and he refers to her as if she were dead by saying "she is no longer with us".
At one point the youth group is constructing a scene depicting Satanism, and someone suggests painting a pentagram on the wall. A couple minutes later the camera pans across from 666 graffiti on the wall next to the Jewish sign of David, which they have apparently confused with a pentacle, which has 5 stars, not 6.
These people are oblivious. They have not done their homework, and if they did, perhaps they would realize how stupid they are for being shallow and judgmental not be doing this. It's questionable as to where their morals lie as well, seemingly dabbling into their own dumbed up version of the occult while threatening people with damnation of hell, even overlooking what is written in their own bible, God is the only judge of man.
None the less, it's humorous and worth a watch.

The Devil's Rejects: Unrated

This one packs a punch. The 2 Disc unrated version is worth getting just for the extras. The second disc is entitled "30 Days of Hell". It runs 2 hours and 24 minutes, and details every day of filming, and every scene filmed. It has to be by far the most detailed behind-the-scenes look into how a movie is made of any DVD I own.
I started watching the unrated version of the film last night, but didn't make it all the way through. I didn't see anything too noticibly different, but may have overlooked some minor stuff. I may update once I watch it. Not sure if it includes the infamas Dr. Satan in the hospitle scene or not, but that is detailed in disc 2.
The movie has 2 audio commentary tracks, one with Rob, and the other with Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and Sheri Moon.

----------------------------------------------

Warnings From Space - 3 moive set

- Zontar: The Thing From Venus

- Slipstream

- Sci-Fighters

Picked this up at K Mart for 7 bucks. Haven't really watched any of the movies yet, I'm sure they are all terrible. I watched 5 minutes of Zontar, which makes Ed Wood look like Martin Scorsese.
Slipstream stars Mark Hamell and Bill Paxton, and Roddy Piper plays a cop in Sci-Fighters. I was sold.

I was wondering how he managed this feat. I assume this is the one on Kingston Pike? I'll stop by after work to check just in case. Should I say "Junkie and Zeo sent me?"

Edited to add Episode III. I just couldn't help myself! Yes, I hated I and II, and for the most part, hated this one too, but there were parts of this that were just so damn cool!

Little secret, yes MFS puts their movies out on the shelf as soon as they get them in, usually at least a week ahead of the release date, sometimes as much as a month or so. They have gotten busted and fined before, but they still do it anyway.
Just please keep it on the down-low all.

Bought nothing. Rented these:

Creep - Stars the chick from Run Lola Run. Typical stalker / slasher fare. Not bad. Above average with a fair amount of the red stuff. Not worth buying by any means, but a better than average horror rental.

The Cave - Free rental. So it was worth it. Fairly average monster movie, but astute horror fans will see it for what it really is within the first 5 minutes - A scientific retelling of an old horror standard.

Mehem, you are the king of all media! I'll want some reviews of some of those purchases once you get the chance. Lady in a Cage scared the shit out of me as a little kid. It was pretty over the top for its day. James Caan right? Not sure how it would hold up now though. And Sympathy for Mr Vengenge! I'm sure the story is phenom, but give me a thumbs up or down on the look of the film. Is this something, like Old Boy, that I would want to watch again and again? The price tag is a bit steep so I want to be sure before buying it. Thanks!

You know, I was a bit disappointed. The story was interesting, but I didn't think it was fleshed out enough. Some crucial parts of the film were seemingly missing (maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention), so I was often left wondering, "How in the hell did they do that...?"

yep james cann's first role, and i think he and de havilland are superb...an exploitive drive-in masterpiece that i really dig...it's very cool how "mean" it is for that time period, and caan is a great villian(not seen too many debuts like that)...if ya' need a copy i'd be happy to get you one(gotta dub calvaire for zeo, apparently some dick helped himself to his copy)...

as for sympathy, there's not many in the game that have an eye better than park(the piano scene in three extreme's "cut"-woof,woof)...he's definately one of my favorite young directors...sympathy is a lot like oldboy(but maybe not as good)in that it's another revenge flick...i won't let you in on much more, but i think you'll definately dig it...he's working on the 3rd installment right now...i hope he doesn't become typecasted because cut is something that the horror genre neeeeeds more of...

some freaks are heading over tonight, gonna watch the torture garden and house where evil dwells...ordered the region 2 copy of wolf creek(the uncut is 8-12 minutes longer and has the kick that's missing from the version in the theater,i loathe the mpaa) and descent today...
