Goth Christianity Anyone?
At the beginning of the month, I attended the second annual Christian-Goth gathering in Baltimore, MD. A new friend turned me on to it, and I didn’t even know anything like that existed, but I was curious and wanted to go see. It was like going to church with the dark and spooky from Sanctus or Temple. Worship was pretty much non-denominational, and very alternative-Goth music wise. I really enjoyed myself, and it felt good to hang with other “Jesusâ€

I was also raised in church ...but do to a misunderstanding between me and the big guy, I have drifted away...part of me still wonders...But that part is almost dead now. I am intersted but in a limited copacity. Until I get over our little misunderstanding that will have to do...

I would like to learn more about it. From what I saw on the links you had, it's an interesting concept. I do attend church on a regular basis, and have even been to so-called "biker" churches, but never anything remotely resembling a goth service. Could prove to be very interesting.

as a big fan and follower of the science of metaphysics it is my duty to remind the readers at home that metaphysics (as a science)Mercurygriffin wrote:I think the idea is great. The Christains will turn goth and I can convert them to Metaphysics/Paganism!
A) have nothing to do with a singluar or multiple deities, but theres a few theories you really gotta say...... ok theres something. who gives a fuck what, but its something.

Its all Good !
This is great, seems like there is some interest stirring here.
Nothing is looking especially off topic to me so far. Music is a great topic. So is paganism and metaphysics.
If some of you are interested in attending Cornerstone, there is a "Goth" tent..the Asylum, which we could help run. I probably will go.
I want to let this thread run a little to give others the chance to chime in, then plan a first get together. In the meantime, if any of you know of a minister/church in town (I'm thinking probably, but not necessarily non-denominational) who is genuinely goth/punk/alternative friendly, let us know. It would be nice to find a worship space where we could gather. But we also might just get togehter one evening to meet, and talk about what we would like to create here.
I'll do my best to shepard this along, but its what we make it.
I just want to see it happen...

At one point in my life the concept of "christian goth" seemed rather oxymoron, but that's just because of my personal experiences growing up.
One of the main reasons I got into the lifestyle I am in is because of my rebellious attitude toward the "Independent Baptist" ideology in the region where I grew up. I didn't even really know what "goth" was at the time, I just wore a lot of black and listened to all that "devil music".
Since then I've found that a lot of goths consider themselves christians, but not a lot of christians consider themselves goths.
I don't claim to be a goth, but the that is the category I end up getting lumped into the majority of the time, because of my taste in decor, music and style, so here I am.
At any rate, I respect everyone's religious beliefs so long as they don't impose them on me or tell me I'm going to burn in hell because I don't accept their god.

Hehe, I know.
On further thought, if I want gothic Xtianity, I'll attend my nearest Roman Catholic church. I'm not sure how much more GOTH one can get...probably why my house has virgin mary statues, candles, rosaries, saint cards and numerous saint charms for decor.
You just can't beat a foot tall glow in the dark virgin mary holy water bottle.

i am Catholic. thats enough of that...
coincidently, sanctus is the fourth part of the Ordinary Mass. sanctus translates to "holy"
Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus,
Holy, Holy, Holy,
Dominus Deus Sabaoth.
Lord God of Hosts.
Pleni sunt coeli et terra gloria tua.
Full are heaven and earth of glory thy.
Hosanna in excelsis.
Hosanna in highest.

Ok, I'm just blathering here but...
Just an observation:
There is and has always been a strong under current of Christian spirituality and dogma within much of the genera's popular music. During the mid to late eighty's and early 90's, it seemed to me that much of the subject matter seemed to revolve around man's struggle to understand and deal with the rules, tests, and nature of the popular Christian views of God.
That being said, I would venture to guess that if asked, the majority of people involved scene wide in the US are likely to be, in one form or another Christian. Personally, I am a hell of a lot more willing to discuss God with a Goth Christian than I am Billy bob Southern Baptist from down the road if for no other reason, I know that I in general, Goth kids are a hell of a lot more open to new ideas and the bigger picture.
