Songs you Won't hear me play at Sanctus

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Oh there's tons of music out there that is so danceable yet so underplayed. Unfortunately it all runs down to taste and energy level. I'm not all that big of an industrial fan except EBM, I prefer the more synthpop/darkwave stuff, but what I think is danceable you might think is total crap. I've been tossing some of the new stuff I've been picking up from myspace to the guys and I'll keep doing that, but just because you hear a certain song over and over again doesn't exactly mean its dead. One of the most famous nights down in Los Angeles practically plays the same bands every month, and believe it or not but the dance music actually is dictated by the dance floor. Admittedly some of the people complaining come out to "listen" to the music, but some of us come out to dance to it. On a side note, the most hated "Black No. 1" has only been played twice this year. Twice! And we hear constant bitching about that.

Ok I was rambling on about something.... oh yeah. Bone, Arkady and Michael are trying to work with us to make Sanctus a better night, so let's work with them as well. Yeesh, lighten up a bit people.
Oh sad is the world. but I have Kavorkian's scarf.

You are correct, your suggestions would please alot of the crowd and I wasn't trying to discount that. It wasn't my intention to offend you. All apologies. The message I was trying to get across was that I'll do my best to help make it a good night. I'm sure that if the masses don't like my set, I'll hear about it.

I have to say though, I will be offended if you allow something this petty to be your reason not to come. I mean, we've known each other for how long now? I didn't expect a comment like that to be a problem between you and I.

The Fallen ROCKS!!!!!!!!!
Not ONLY does he REQUEST different music, BUT he BRINGS me my OWN COPIES of COOL Compilations so that I can take them home and get to know them so that I know how and what I want to incorporate into my sets.
8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)
Arkady says "Forever".
I'll say "Forever" just like Robert Smith says "Forever" or "The Cure is Breaking up for Good".
;)
Bone summed it pretty well.

Bite Me.
I've changed LOTS of things.
How would YOU know?
What am I SUPPOSED TO DO?
Go buy 30 random CD's per month and try to pick songs?
If I like a track, I'll consider buying the FULL CD.
Sorry I'm not rich, but I RELY on patrons to Help me meet their wants.
If they want New, they can bring it to me and it is appreciated.
If they want Old, I'll play it.
What's your beef with me?
o_o  :matrix:

Just a thought.....If sanctus is in danger of being axed why is everyone bitching at one another? We should be coming together on this. Mind you I have virtually no weight here , and ive only been to sanctus like 4 times......but I would still like it to be there. Everyone just take a deep breath, write some poetry, and relax!

Actually most of the music I have and burn off for other DJ's are free downloads from actual artist sites, (the old) mp3.com, vitaminic.com, myspace.com, etc. and quite a number of other sites. As well as free stuff that the bands and independent record companies send out. You'd be surprised how much is out there, you just have to dig for it. And the reason as to giving it to fellow DJ's is so they can check out new bands themselves and get the album if they dig it and spin them for you all so you can check out yourself and maybe buy the album, which for most of the bands I "discover" runs $8-$12 for self pressed CD's.

Oh I was jokingly being pissy. You'd have to like kill Karla, Boo or Smeet to ever make me really upset with you. Sorry I didn't make my joking clear....I'm still gonna try to come, but I probably won't dance, but hopefully the club owners don't care about that as long as I buy a drink, lol.

with certin songs being pulled does that mean we can add new tunes as
Mama were all crazy now-quiet riot or To Hell with the Devil-Styper
or my all time personal fav Slowride-Foghat just a thought
and please dont pull prince from the set i mean hardly any prince ever gets played and now the one song that always gets played is being pulled
anyway i know the three aforemetioned songs will never get played and thats fine i think we should tone down the anger and just be there and whatever gets played gets played the dj are the captins of this ship so lets just ride
pretty by nature evil by design

Some friends of mine used to have a little goofy routine to Black No.1 about eight years ago bacause it was so over played even then. I think this is a good thing.

Kimmy, I assume you have to be exhausted from taking care of the family and the new baby which probably explains your recent attitude shift. It's totally understandable however, as a friend; I'd like to ask you to try to consider how your choice of wording can affect other people before you actually hit the post button. I really don't think that most folks here deserve the wrath of Kimmy.

Mike is no more guilty of stagnation than me. He's a good DJ. If he wasn't, he wouldn't be with us.

I believe that there is nothing wrong with bringing a DJ a burned copy of a band’s music if its intention is to expose said DJ to new tracks to buy. I don't think you have noticed the several crates and CD containers Mike brings to every event filled with actual licensed copies of music. When Mike hears something he likes, he goes out and buys it.

I'm glad you are proud of me but I I really hope to inspire others to be proud of their scene. Right now we are experiencing growing pains but I do feel the need to remind folks that we still have one of the best scenes in the country.

But what I am getting at is that there are current bands which fit the goth-industrial mood yet do not dress like The Crow or in any obvious way associate themselves with the genre.

It's like, look at 1988. You had crap bands like Poison and Ratt who embraced the cheezy hair-metal image, and then you had bands like Guns N Roses who didn't. But both kinds of bands were working in the same milieu, right?

So, just because a band isn't called "My Love Is Bleeding For Your Black Soul" or doesn't dress up like The Crow doesn't mean they are outside the mood that Sanctus tries to create, get me?

It's not like I'm suggesting they play The Arcade Fire. But I totally don't see how Interpol wouldn't be appropriate, given the fact that they are tremendously influenced by 80s goth and shoegazer bands. Listen to their first album and tell me it wouldn't fit right into someone's collection somewhere between The Cure, Joy Division and Slowdive.

Oh ok..Interpol is the shite...just not very dancable...Well I dunno "Specialist" might work...That'a bout as goth as it gets. And just Joy Division practically produced their first 2 albums...minue Ian Curtis? I dunno I'm not all goth all the time...

I have a David Grey album...well I don't think that helped...He's one goth mofo...

"The Specialist" is a little too long, but that's my favorite song of theirs by far.

But, I think "Slow Hands" or "Evil" would be danceable for sure. They're definitely upbeat.

;)

Hardcore girl... I hope you make it out. All the boys have great sets awaiting us & the newer tunes they've been playing lately (though I have no idea who does them or what they're called) sound super groovy. I think you'll enjoy it. :D

Arkady, play that one tune we talked about last time, if you can please. Its excellent dance or toe-tapping music!

Now you've provoked me to listen and choose. "Specialist" definetly my favorite...depressing as shit though..All three would be good to open with...but I wouldn't reccomend any of them to be played after 10 pm...
