About the Shooting in Seattle
I noticed a post by zeo about this incident and since I live in the area I thought I would post about it as well. I also noticed that Russo posted :
"We were too busy laughing about some dude's real-life zombie apocalypse to delegate posting responsibilities"
I am just curious what is so funny about someone going into a person's house and killing anyone he can find? Please if I am missing the funny side of this please let me know. You see what you guys are not seeing are the Family and Friends on TV mourning their fallen seeing the hurt and anger on their faces. Yes apparently this guy was psycho there is no denying that and the reasons he did this may never be known - ever! Do you guys realize the youngest victim was 14? Yes they had been to a Rave and they all came back to this guys house for an after party. You must understand that the Teckno scene in Seattle is a very close knit family and a lot of people are blaming themselves thinking they should have noticed this guy at the rave or maybe they could have done something to stop the guy. This is no laughing matter these people will never grow old, never have families, never be able to have a voice. I just think it's sad a select few seem to think this issue is funny I realize you guys are not seeing the full story and you are only getting half of it but please I knew one of the guys killed so next time you post about a tragedy please be respectful and realize that just because you are in Knoxville does not mean it did not affect people that live or lived in Knoxville or post on Knoxgothic. Next time use some common sense that is all I am asking.

Man if you can't find some humor in even the worst of news headlines, I feel sorry for you. I laughed at various details of my loved ones deaths. Some people use humor as a way to cope with the fucked up shit that happens.
Some things are so surreal and bizarre they just illicit a smile, sorry.
I've heard someone who survived a school shooting (who was shot at) laugh about it, so I don't think we are being bizarrely insensitive, and if so, grow some thicker skin. If it had happened in Knoxville, we probably would have smirked too, unless we knew the people personally. I mean, what do you want us to do, light a candle for people we don't know?
Sorry for your loss, but isn't it kind of retarded to invite total strangers that you met at a rave (where large amounts of illegal drugs are consumed-I know this because I used to go to them often) back to your house?
Another thing I have never understood is why someone dieing makes them all of a sudden a saintly individual who had some right to be here. I knew a guy who was a cokehead and a pretty much worthless asshole who was murdered and all of a sudden, he's some kind of martyr.

Well I can certainly understand both of your viewpoints. It's kind of ironic we have posts here with 2 people whose author names are from opposite ends of the spectrum...
I mean name tears of isis implies sensitivity,
and the name hardcoregirl....well....does not...
(although I expect she is - she's just damn well armored and expresses it selectively )
I appreciate how considerately you phrased your request. And while hardcoregirl did have some valid points, I think it's as unrealistic for her to expect you to laugh about it as it is for you to expect anyone not to laugh about it.
There is certainly no lack of irreverence in this group, and while it concerns you that this irreverence is displayed on a public forum and you have the right to issue a request, it is not within your area of influence to have everyone comply with it.
BTW, hardcoregirl, it's a good thing I bought 2 buttons from you this weekend, cause one fell off before the end of the night....

I don't expect him to laugh about it necessarily, I just expect him to not be all "butthurt" because others find it amusing.
I mean, those Darwin Awards books sell for a reason and people read "News of The Wierd" because people find the bizarre manners in which people die...well, amusing.

Sorry, confused pity with expectation...
(i see them as the same difference-we often pity people who don't meet our expectations) ....my bad.
For the record, I agree your overall points are valid.

Just out of curiosity, how long did you know this person before he was killed? How old was he? What was his name? What was his affiliation to you?
Besides being a Seattle resident, how has this tragedy personally affected you?
I find it humorous that people dressed as zombies were killed with a shotgun, ala Army of Darkness, Resident Evil, etc..... get it? The situation parallelled a lot of images I've seen in horror movies and video games, so I had a chuckle over how cliche it was.

I agree with Russo. I thought the same thing. Some folks need to learn to laugh at life and death. It all happens to us at one time or another and sometimes can be pretty funny. I mean, Elvis died on the toilet. THAT is funny.
My inner child is a mean little F**ker.
Have seen both ends of the spectrum....families absolutely tore up about their loved one dying and family members at the bedside telling me funny stories about their loved ones as their loved ones were dying in front of them. Everyone deals with death differently. In both situations, both the family members and myself were in tears talking, it is just part of the healing process. I hope all the families/friends of those killed are able to smile when they think of their deceased loved one and the wonderful life they (hopefully) lived. And maybe they, too will find some humor in the manner or circumstances of death someday, however this takes time and should not be expected so soon after it happened. In the first few days after a loved one dies, you're usually still in shock about the death and probably shouldn't be held responsible for ANY possibly insensitive things you say or do during this time.
Unless you are in someone else's shoes, you cannot begin to imagine how they are feeling, so let's all be respectful and remember that the human experience is different for everyone.

i laughed my ass off. if it were a close friend, would i do the same? maybe not right away, but eventually - yes. i do believe i would.
in a world full of sickness, laughter really is the best medicine.
now, i do believe i'll shut up before this becomes a rant.

i don't understand why you would care if someone thinks its funny.
if you don't think its funny, then don't laugh.
people get offended to easily. I mean, come on, it doesn't even affect you. why bother being offended?

Wow! It's amazing just how many people on this forum view what happened to these kids as just a joke. Hmmmm I guess that says alot about how unfeeling you people are. And for the record yes they were at a rave with a theme about Zombies but after the Rave they were not dressed up as Zombies and to assume so is stupid and to address what Buttercup said about the drugs and crap For the record the police found NO DRUGS and NO DRUGS IN THEIR SYSTEMS at ALL! So to assume that all people that go to Raves do drugs is also STUPID! Raves on the West Coast are different than on the east coast. And hey I like laughing at death to for the record but not when a friend of mine was gunned down for no reason at all. What I was trying to get across was that what happened here can also happen anywhere at anytime. Yes the kids made a mistake a fatal one in asking the guy to come back to the house I totally agree with that but Hind sight is 20/20 I mean come on people how many times have you been at a club met someone and invited them back to your house or apartment that very same night? We have all done it and later regretted it ! I'm just saying the next time you befriend someone you might want to think twice about bringing them back home but if none of you care about your wellbeing then so be it. Never say it can not happen where you live because it can. Ok enough of the public service announcement !

Of course not all people at a rave use drugs, but a large percentage do. Not all the people at a Phish concert are smelly hippies, but a good deal of them are.
Well thats where they went wrong. Maybe if dude had gotten some X or some lsd he would have not gone into a homicidal rage. Perhaps if those kids had had drugs, they would have been more paranoid and cautious.
A rave without drugs would make me want to kill people. I mean, raves suck without drugs. Ravers and glowsticks are fucking annoying sober. Thats why when I stopped doing drugs, I realized raves were pointless and horrid without them.
And as for unfeeling, so we laugh about tragicly humorous events that we can do nothing about, if we "felt" for all those involved all the time we'd kill ourselves. Those people are no different to me than the hundreds dieing in Iraq, or from AIDS in Africa, or from the Avian flu. . Perhaps you should concentrate your energies on injustices that you can do something about....
Is death funny?
Maybe the following scenes from a few of my favorite movies will prove the point.
Igby goes down: grossed over 4million at the box office.
The scene where Igby’s mother dies and he jumps on the bed and starts punching her.
Fargo: grossed over 24 million dollars at the box office.
The scene where the guy is grinding up the dead body in the meat grinder.
American Psycho: grossed over 15million at the box office.
Ok the whole movie is gory and funny as hell.
Pulp Fiction: grossed over 107 million at the box office.
The scene where they accidentally blow the kids head off in the back seat of the car.
If death wasn’t funny…then why are most humans paying money to see it.
Have a laugh why don’t ya. It’s good for the heart!
