Mom charged for hosting a keg party for daughter's prom

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Mom charged for hosting a keg party for daughter's prom

That'll teach her to try and make sure her child and child's friends don't drink and drive. Now people in that area will know that it's better to let the kids go out, get drunk, and drive home drunk.

i realize im a hard ass..but if my kid is stupid enough to get trashed and drive they better hope they die instead of me getting ahold of them.

I just dont buy into the whole "well they're gonna do it anyway so might as well help them" shit..sorry. Where do you draw the line? Johnny is gonna get depressed and shoot himself in the face anyway..i might as well do it for him. What kind of thing is that to teach your kids anyway? 'Obey laws and make safe and sane decisions unless you're gonna do it anyway..then just uh..go ahead and do it.'

No.

I can understand the thinking behind it..really.. and if thats what you wanna do with your kids..fine. But it isn't flying in my house.

I don't think kids not driving is a good enough reason to break the law and endanger other peoples children.

Who is to say that the kids didn't have cars there and wouldn't have left once mom was tanked?

And who is to say the other parents knew their kids were being endangered?

Alcohol is very dangerous even if cars aren't present...fights, rapes, accidents, all more likely if alcohol is involved.

Way to be a role model mom, breakin' the law!!

I hate these type mothers...my mom was one....yeah she was the "cool mom" but she certainly didn't guide me very well.

i think we have opposite views because of the way we were raised, my mom was not the cool mom....very spiritual, very strickt....i wasnt allowed to even have a sleepover util it was deemed uncool cause of my age....so i now have the reverse thinking

Shit, lets see, from the age I was 5 I came home and took care of myself for hours til my mom got home...

She took me rolling and vandalizing on halloween when I was 8.

Took me to see the ramones in like 3rd grade, the chili peppers in 5th.

Let me cuss, stay up as late as I wanted, wear whatever...

When I was 13 my curfew was midnight but if I wanted to stay out later all I had to do was call.

The first time I smoked pot my mom cried and told me she wasn't mad, she just felt "old"

My parents told me to do anything illegal before I was 18.

So when I was 14 I was hanging out with guys that were 21 and found myself pregnant...yeah some of the decisions were my own but a parent shouldn't let her kid be in that sort of situation.

I plan on knowing where my son is and who he is with and what he is doing til he's 18.

granted, you are right

i dont plan on being that liberal with my kids, that can cause seriouse problems for everyone down the road, but im also not going to be as strickt as my parents were. I plan to let them express themselves freely, but there will be a line drawn in the sand....respect is something that i think is missing in homes today, and it wont be missing in my home....if my kid wants to experiment id prefer they come to me, id feel safer letting them have a drink with me, than with some other kids who will probaly get em into trouble...i dont know what i will say about drugs, i just dont know

besides for me parenthood is a ways off....i just hope i can be the best parent i can be, i hope to teachem right, and teach em to be a good person....thats my dream anyways....sry back to the topic

Yea, it's called contributing to a minor...and it's a pretty serious offense. That's why whenever we had keg parties in school...the parents called to check in, but weren't there.

And that whole "At least they weren't driving..."Yea...the one girl wasn't, but how do yuo think the other kids planned on getting home by curfew...flying on their drunken broom?!

Look, both offenses are breaking the law...and sorry but if one of those kids had gotten drunk, and killed someone in an accident...all of you would be talking about how awful of a parent she was. That's why the law is in place.

Morgan...I agree with you 100%...I was never pissed at my Dad for being super protective, I see the mistakes made by my siblings when he didn't take that much effort. I'm glad they cared enough about me to instil some rules.

I understand your point on the other kids. I don't agree with that either since those kids are not hers to make that decision. I do support allowing your own kid to drink in your care if you decide to. I mean, my mother told me I had the option, and since it was there and not taboo. I actually didn't have my first drink till I was 22.

I agree in some ways with all opinions.
The mom broke the law by allowing underage kids drink.
Granted, even if they were all staying the night, she still broke the law and purchased alcohol and distributed it to minors.
Were the OTHER parents aware and cool with this?
Would YOU as a parent be cool with your 17 year old girl getting drunk @ someones house without your supervision? I dont think I would......
Granted, letting the kids party in a "safe" place is one thing and being supervised by an adult is a cool concept, but still too much grey area there for me.
