To be fair, I don't really think the DaVinci Code has caused an upheaval in the Roman Catholic Church, who are better aware than most that it is a work of fiction. It has, however, caused a good deal of reasonable concern, due to the fact that many unenlightened fence-sitters, pagans, gnostics, and outright satanists have embraced its utterly fantastic assertions as truth in fiction's clothing. Though the author himself claims to be a Chistian, I think most Christians would have to agree that the book's implicit denial of Christ's divinity, and its effects on the perspectives of the aforementioned unenlightned, could only be the products of satanic influence. Afterall, assuming a Christian perspective, pure logic would dictate that anti-Christ=satanic. Further, as you should know, if you know anything, a comparison between the 700 Club and the Roman Catholic Church is akin to a comparison between the Lollypop Guild and the ACLU. I smell troll bait.

That would make you the troll, then, and Dark Elf the bait, since we've known him IRL for years.
Wow, look! I've caused an upheaval in KnoxGothic! And to think it only took four words (I smell troll bait.), too! Wow, I should write a book and call it the Dunderhead Code.

1. Ok. To say that there has been an 'upheavel' in the Catholic church is a strong word, but there has even been talk about them trying to get the movie banned.... and if they are so "aware" that it is a work of fiction as you say, then why such the big deal? To deny that they have hidden more information and parts of history from us for centuries would be a ignorant stand to take. Maybe they are hiding something?
2. Your statement "due to the fact that many unenlightened fence-sitters, pagans, gnostics, and outright satanists have embraced its utterly fantastic assertions as truth in fiction's clothing." is rude in itself for the simple fact that this cannot be documented in any manner whatsoever.... not to mention the fact that you group all of those completely different paths together like they are some kind of support group for this work of fiction that you seem to be concerned about as well! Its called SUSPENSION OF DIS-BELIEF.
3. Lets see......"I think most Christians would have to agree that the book's implicit denial of Christ's divinity, and its effects on the perspectives of the aforementioned unenlightned, could only be the products of satanic influence."...... once again, you group the list of people that you metioned above' "unenlightened fence-sitters, pagans, gnostics, and outright satanists" as "the aforementioned unenlightned".......and the statement that this work of FICTION "could only be the products of satanic influence" shows me what your beliefs are.....and that it is a conservative/christian one..... not that there is anything wrong with that. but I find that strange for someone who is accusing me of setting "Troll Bait".... sounds like you are the Troll, who set his own bait.
4. Your statement, "Afterall, assuming a Christian perspective, pure logic would dictate that anti-Christ=satanic." is implying that anything that is anti Christ-like or Christian is Satanic in essence. Well if you knew anything, you would know that actuall Satanists do not even belive in Satan. Real "Satanism" is the belief that man is only an animal. We live, we die. Thats it. "Satan" is only the carnal nature of man that we should not repress. To imply that anything that does not support the doctrine of the Christian belief system is otherwise worshipping "Satan" is a dogmatic. right wing, conservative statement that doesnt even really calcutlate since real Satanists dont even believe in Satan.
5. Also, you stated " As you should know, if you know anything, a comparison between the 700 Club and the Roman Catholic Church is akin to a comparison between the Lollypop Guild and the ACLU. "
I never made a comparison between the 700 club and the Catholic church. That was simply the program I was wathcing that brought this to my attantion.
6. "I smell troll bait." This sir really pisses me off. You clearly are a Troll, for the mere fact of the things I have pointed out earlier. I simply put up a post about how silly I think it is that a work of fiction could be taken SO seriously... BECAUSE ITS A WORK OF FICTION...... just like Star Wars! You clearly have taken this to another leveil, which tells something about you! Not to mention the fact that I had a bad expierience on here with a good friend of mine conducting himself in a manner that was rude and broke most of the ethical laws of conducting ones self on a message board. BTW, Jeffry, if this is you AGAIN positing on here to stir up shit..... especially after I have expressed how I disaproved of your actions before, we are going to have a serious riff in our friendship (and as we have discussed, its not about stating an opinion or defending it, but "Trolling" and impersonation). I HOPE this is not you!
In closing, I am all about a friendly debate and difference of opinion and or religious beliefs.... thats what makes the world go round, but to state that "pagans, gnostics, and outright satanists " are "unlightened" is rude and opinionated. Furthermore to imply that this was "Troll Bait" upon ME is to imply that I had underlying intentions with this subject....which I did not. Also, to imply that this movie is "Satanic" due to the fact that it is "Anti-Christian" is silly since it brings me back to my initial statement:
ITS FICTION YOU MORONS!
How can something be "Satanic" when it isnt even real, furthermore, real "Satanists" dont beliven in Satan.
People like you have only pupetuated interest in this "Satanic" film!
BTW- Who wants to go see the satanic film The Davinci Code with me?!?
Lets set the date!

The fuckheads on The 700 club think EVERYTHING is an "incarnation of Satan"......
If there was a satan, the 700 club would surely be his work.

Dark Elf, you seem to be a thoughful fellow, though, in this case, an overly emotional one. You have me all wrong, or at least mostly wrong. Allow me to explain.
I'll begin at the beginning, with my impression of your original post:
Well, now, that's quite an exclamation, isn't it? I took notice especially of your last sentence, iterated in all caps, as if you were shouting, which denotes an extreme emotional charge, and clearly demonstrates that you have some sort of grudge against the Roman Catholic Church, and probably, I take it, against all of Christianity. The fact that you would deign to post such a message on a discussion board indicated to me that you intended to achieve one of several possible effects:
1) You wished to engage in discussion on the topic of the Roman Catholic Church's reaction to the book and movie, the DaVinci Code, in order to gain access and recourse to perspectives differing from your own (afterall, you already know, and have expressed your own take on the subject).
2) You wished to educate the rest of us that the DaVinci Code is a work of fiction, and that the Roman Catholic Church are morons, because they have reacted to it in some way you deem inappropriate.
3) You wished only to see your own words on a discussion board, and to see your opinions reiterated back to you by like-minded non-Christians, whose opinions would perfectly mirror your own, effectively creating an electronic orgy of high-fives, group hugs, and perpetual mouth-to-ass liplock.
I took it for granted that you intended to elicit outcome #1, because #2 would require that you really believe that the Roman Catholic Church is somehow unaware that the DaVinci Code is a work of fiction, and #3 could surely only be the desire of a narcissistic twit, on which point I give you the benefit of doubt. So, since I assumed you wanted to engage in discussion, for the sake of gleaning alternate perspectives, and, since my take on the subject differs from yours, I though it might be satisfactorily stimulating for both of us if I were to engage you in a bit of somewhat rhetorical debate. Before I go on, I would like to clarify one other point which seems to have bruised some sensitive backsides here - Because I just couldn't believe that the last emphatic sentence of your original post really meant that you illogically thought the Roman Catholic Church was experiencing upheaval over a work of fiction they erroneously believed was something else, I took it that you intentionally planted those final few hot words as a creative way of throwing down the gauntlet, or, in other words, a creative way of baiting the audience into debate. Thus, I intended to lightheartedly accept the perceived challenge, by jokingly inserting my last sentence, " I smell troll bait." I guess I should have included a goofy emoticon for clarity.
Now, then, if we are all finally on the same page, and if you, or anyone else, are willing to enter into it, it would be my intellectual pleasure to delve forward into discussion, not only of the topic you initiated, your take on it, and my differing take on it, but also of the now related topic of my personality, of which your assertions indicate you believe you have discerned a number of details, merely from my the very few words of my original post. Sound like fun? Anyone? Anyone?
BTW, I'd probably have to go ahead and concede the points already made about the 700 Club.
Actually, 667 is right across the street from the beast. Everyone knows that 668 is the neighbor of the beast.

I agree with Hardcoregirl, the 700 club is the work of the devil. However, I do not believe in the devil nor the 700 club! Anyway, I have alot of very personal feelings about the whole subject of the movie...not really the movie but Gnostic beliefs. No, it is not satan worshipping...but I do not want to get into a full-fledged war over the topic. I know what is the truth, for me that is. Everyone has a different path, I do not push what I believe in on others, that is wrong. Just like using fear, hate, anger, guilt as manipulation tactics to gain members of ANY religious/spiritual following is WRONG. And it is just not logical, unless you are the leader and then it is perfectly logical to use this tactics.
Before anyone makes any kind of judgements, do some research. Knowledge is the key. Ignorance and judgement go hand-in-hand when it comes to the topic of beilefs and allowing others to find their own path. I think of a story told to me once by a friend. She was driving to work and she got behind a car with a sticker that said "Honk if you love Jesus." and she honked and the guy gave her the finger. So discouraging.
Overly-religious individuals really don't make me cringe, unless they hurt someone. I accept everyone, I really do. I have had enough crap throw at me for the past 6 years that I finally said..."Do whatever makes you happy" to the world.
Now, the HUGE Scottish Rite building in Knoxville, I'll be honest, that does give me goose bumps. But hey, whatever! If that is what gets people through their life and they really believe it is spiritual and important to them...go for it. So, I say, chill...this movie will shake things up a bit, but maybe it is time for things to change. We cannot go on forever with blinders on.
Now I saw Silent Hill tonight and that is a good flick!
Peace

Uncouthyouth,
First off, let me start by saying that none of this has anything to do with my religious views about anyone or any entity and secondly has nothing to do with any prejudice against Christianity or the Catholic church…..(and quite honestly, I really like them the best out of all the Christian denominations in a way….. they are very ritualistic, have beautiful ceremonies and churches and they at least uphold the eternal Goddess image and the sacrificial God aspect of things…I have catholic saint candles burning all over my house most of the time as well… but I don’t like some of the things they have done historically, but I am not going into that)…. I am in no form prejudice against Christians. I personally am not a ‘Christian’ by traditional or modern terms…… and my religion I will not go into, for getting into religious debate was not my intention and I will not go there except in rhetorical response to what I felt earlier were statements made by you that I viewed as prejudice towards those that did not share your religious beliefs. If you must know, my brother and his wife have a youth ministry in California and some of my best friends are devout Christians as well. Some of them are also Pagan amongst many other traditions. As far as Christianity, I spent my youth up until high school in private Christian schools. And before you even try to go there let me state that I do not regret it or resent it….. for I am very educated in Christian theology and the like, and thus feel as though my choice of religious path is an educated one, unlike some people of any religion accept it on blind faith, or fear or whatever and have never stepped outside there own little world of thinking. I also spent many years studying many religions and thus made my choices for my own path and beliefs……. So my initial statement was not with emotional dislike for the group, in my opinion that is over reacting, based on religion. I am a very sarcastic person and find humor in shit like that, and found it ridiculous all the stuff I was hearing over a piece of fiction. Use this as ammunition if you will, but I have not read the book or seen the movie(well, its not out yet) and my statement was not made to defend the movie/book either. To be honest, I also didn’t start this thread for #1, #2 or #3. I only started it from seeing a group of people on TV, the internet and media making the whole thing a really big deal over a piece of work that is a story and I find it hilarious that there are better things to worry about than that. I post a lot of things all over the web, and to be honest, most of it is for entertainment purposes in some form, even if its sick…I also find it funny as shit that, by their reactions they are only fueling the fire. I don’t care what group it was, Christian or not….. they are still morons for wasting so much time trying to disprove something that is fiction! All the while, the creator of the whole thing is going to go laughing all the way to the bank! So, in essence I am a moron too, for wasting all this time typing this over something that, once again, is a piece of fiction and doesn’t really matter. On one hand though I can objectively see, from what all I know about the plot, why they might have concerns and be upset. But maybe it’s about time someone posed and presented theoretical questions to the big, bad, Christian entities about the possibility that they might be wrong! Clearly when that happens they throw a temper tantrum! And we all know what happens whenever we question their authority/philosophies and they throw a temper tantrum….
As far as lip-locking onto assholes, there are a few women around here I wouldn’t mind doing that to!
Tell ya what! Maybe you and I should go and see the movie together, eh?
Dammed! I have to be across the street from the beast….. not nice to look at when you walk out the front door in the morning. At least his dog wont ruin my bushes since he’s not going to be my neighbor….. boy is the UPS man going to be pissed.

Hmm... Dark Elf, I have to work from open to close tonight, but I hope to be able to get on here after that, for another post. Perhaps I will, at that time, send you a PM, to work out details of viewing this movie with you, if you were serious about that proposal. Peace be with you all.
