24? Yes then, you are a bebe, a wee little, get-in-my-belly bebe - in "retro" terms anyway. It seems to me that those most in favor of this type of music did not have to suffer through it ;-)

Well, it was "good" enough for Laibach to cover it. so I guess I have to give it my blessing for that.

Just curious - What was everyone listening to in the 80's? When did you graduate? What 80's albums helped you to branch out into other great music that was starting to come out in the 80's, but did not get the 80's MTV or radio play? Here was my music experience with the 80's:

I graduated high school in 1985. I had been a devoted metal head in the early 80s - Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Merciful Fate ("Melissaaaaa!"), all that good stuff. The girls in high school tended to frown on that. They did, however, LOVE Duran Duran, Culture Club, and Adam Ant. So, if you wanted to be "in" with the ladies, you had to start listening to that shit. On the plus side, it exposed me to the "weird chicks" who were into B-52's and the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I still thought most "new wave" was shit, but I began to find out about more electronic music (Klaus Nomi) through them and New Wave. Around the same time, I was discovering punk - I bought The Cramps - Bad Music For Bad People, thinking it was a heavy metal album (kind of looked like Eddie). From there, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys all entered my album collection.

Once I started college in 85, I was exposed to much more music - the typical 80's college radio / alternative stuff - REM, Smiths, and the like. I also met some great people who exposed me to the music of 4AD (Pixies, DCD, Cocteau Twins) as well as my first taste of gothic and industrial music. When a girl named Kat introduced me to the way out "gother than thou" music of bands like Current 93, Coil, Dimanada Galas, Nick Cave, and the Swans, I knew that I had finally found my musical niche. I was hooked and have been ever since.

So the 80s were not a bad time for music at all. It's just that what is commonly celebrated as "80's Music" or "retro" music, is really just a sampling of radio friendly one hit wonders, and what was popular on MTV at the time.
