The animatrix

Post by Lost Traveler »

:matrix: This is out today, will be getting it later, but saw some of the free downloads (but I couldnt get sound). The animation styles look great, and there are stories about the original war with the machines. :kill: :bangbang: :matrix: :lurkkill: :fencing:

Actually I got to see it this past Sunday. See I had to work very very late (twlelve hours yipe!) and since we have no perks at FC video I decided to create my own. Worked to some good too. Got several cusomters interested in seeing it.

I'm bad...

Anyway from what I remember....I thought the opening sequence was ridiculous. Oh wow sword fight each oters clothes off uh huh...geesh can't have intellectual sci fi anymore without clothes ripping off. What if the Matain Chronicles had nudey martian pin ups in it? Oh never mind.

Was dissapointed in the last flight of...something or another. There just wasn't a strong enough story for me to remember anything. I thought the computer anination was sort of dull too.

The second Renascance parts one and two were my favoirte pieces. The animation was superbly gorgeous and the sotry was just woh0h...I think they borrowed a lot from Asimov concerning the rights of robots. It created a section of doubt in my head as to wether the machines were justified or not in their imprisonment of humans.

The Kid was another favoirite. A little bordering on cult rationality but sitll a favoirte.

The one about the runner was odd. Typical in it's potrayal of the human spirit but it still churned out pretty good. But didn't you see that ending a mile away?

Overall a good little DVD showing a good cross the board of animatio styles. I think the computer naimation was a bit lackluster though.

Ok got mine,

The nine visions have some fablous artwork (oddly enough even though some of it dosnt look it its all anime), It has three stories that tie in directly with the movie. The last Flight of Osiris, (which was released with dreamcatcher so nothing new there) which was done by the guys who did Final Fantasy. The Kid which whas done by the guys who did Bebob(Watanabe) (they also did detective story on the disk), This is the Kid you see in the movie who annoys Neo (after seeing this your realize how much of dick neo is being in the movie), neo makes a cameo in the end. And then Detective Story who's only real tie in is that Trinity is in it and its one of the few That has an open ending.

The other two of note are the renissance pieces this tells th story of the war betweens the humans and the machines in a mytholigized machine version (you see the Four horse men riding across the country and they are machines).

The others were pretty much just stories about events in the matrix that dont really tie into anything, though beyond is probably the best looking of them, thenthere is Matriculated done in the eon flux (or Rien) style, This story takes place out side the matrix and is and experement in a human created matrix. (editted) theres also Program but except for studie of a style not that interesting)

Then there is the rest of the disk that actually contains seperated Directors commentaries, and inspiring piece called scrolls to screen: the history and culture of anime (for any anime fans or just animators)

Thats all Ive gotten through so far....... even though it says $19.95 (which is a little much) on tues day they were selling it for $16 (I dont know how long the special price will last). If your collecting the stuff then worth getting but if your just wanting to see the stories rent it.

Things I've noticed from watching the stories:

The teacher in Zions main frame asks for forgiveness for man and machine..it seems to believe in something higher, anouther layer of the matrix?

The machines won the war by swarming, and yet Zion has lasted 100years (ok 600 now), they should have known something was up.

In Kids story when hes escaping and the art seems to warp, its intentinal to show that the kid can actually warp stuff before he wakes up, so hes actually more powerful then Neo (which is why i suspect neo's such a dick to him, hes jelous)

The only people they try to save are people who work on computers?
