I use the special effects brand that Hottopic sells, except they have a limited selection most of the time. so I buy from the web(which I highly suggest), they have over 20 colors and you can mix them. I mixed the cupcake pink and the virgin rose (kinda purple) and it turned out BRIGHT fushia...and it lasted a Loooooong time and it didn't need really light hair to stick well. heres a link that has every color they sell. http://drlocks.net/cart/hair-color-p-328.html they also have a nice selection of loose synth hair and extentions, falls ,wigs ect.
Life is like a box of Chocolates....sometimes you get coconut...and sometimes you get cream.....then there are times when you get shit..

my girlfriend used atomic pink special effects, and it honestly lasted about nine months. i'm going to try and use that now.

For basic black Clairol's Nice'n Easy works great -- it won't fade, its all but impossible to get it out even if you want it out. It'll stay black 'til you cut it off.
I've never tried seriously enough with unatural colors to know, though I found Coolaid & vinegar wasn't good for much.
