The only suggestion I would have goes for most things in life. I wish for people not to be so picky about their cultural surroundings. Realize that not everyone agrees on what constitutes Goth and what does not. Apreciate what you do have and work for what you want.
There is a lot of beauty in the world and most of it is missed through eyes forced shut.

Agreed. The responsibility of the definition of most anything resides within the heart and mind of each individual. After all, the world is only experienced through often-faulty electrolytically enhanced signals and extremely limited peripheral equipment.
Apreciate what you do have and work for what you want.
And realize that in the end, you're still going to die. As such, it would be a very good idea to enjoy everything that you come into contact with, to the fullest extent possible.
There is a lot of beauty in the world and most of it is missed through eyes forced shut.
And often that which is not missed due to self-inflicted blindness is distorted beyond any recognition.
If carpenters made buildings the way programmers make programs, the first woodpecker to come along would destroy all of civilization. Anonymous

The people don't even like new music at the club slipped in between old favorites; you think they'd turn out for an entire concert of an artist they don't know?
Shit.
The only reason Lords of Acid come by is because they're crossover into the frat scene and can draw decent numbers. You'd be wasting your time with someone like Inertia or Terrorfakt.

I remember one point in knox a few years ago....
Meat Beat Manifestoes played in Knoxville....More recent though not too much...Crocodile Shop...We ALMOST had The Electric Hellfire Club.
Could get KMFDM to back through...though Caustic doesn't like them anymore, I wouldn't mind seeing them.
*no punches meant*
Knoxville could have potential, but won't. It lies stinking in the gutta.

Yeah, back in 2000. It's been nearly three years since they played here, and now that they're signed on Metropolis, they're a bit bigger name, even if they are the same little down-home boys. Sound's radically changed, though, and nobody knows 'em.

I too must go along with CD, appreciate what you have. Belive me what we all have here in knoxville is something, it isn't much but it's a lot more than i've got where i'm living, i mean i drive 1:15 to 1:30 hours to get to the club when it's time for Sanctus because the goth scene is basically 10 people, and half of them i don't get along with. There are no clubs, no gathering places, No place for a goth to go without getting security called to watch them constantly because we are the Weirdo's.
They all think we are going to go through and start killing people so i come to Knoxville just so i can be around people of common interests, and that are really kick ass people. Plus it's a place that i don't feel like i'm not wanted. It's really depressing when you go into a jewlery store to buy something for your significate other and you have to get them to get their manager just so you can get service.
Everywhere I go someone starts saying that i'm going to hell, or that i'm the spawn of Satan, i don't dress the way i do to get that, i dress that way because it looks good, and it is comfortable. It also fits who i am. I've been all over Knoxville and you don't get that kind of stuff down there, if people are staring they are staring because they think you look cool not because they believe you are a murderer.
My little brother was expelled from school on charges of Terroristic threatening because he's a little goth, someone said that he had a hit list, and even though they found nothing, they expelled him.
So take advantage of what you have, you really have it lucky, maybe not as lucky as say Atlanta, but you and we have it lucky for at least having something.
As far as making things better, i think it's getting better all the time. I like discussing religion and it get's touched on, i like discussing computers and technology, there's places for it. Music is a passion that i think we all have and yes it get's discussed i just wish people weren't so close minded. I love the new thread on the gearheads. I just wish there was somewhere stable that was a place for all of us to go, or maybe a store that we could get that hard to find goth stuff. You know a small shop with a cd collection, jewlery, clothing, maybe custom stuff. Stuff that only one or two items of it was made, you know someplace to spend all that well earned money that i gain slowly but surely. That way we can take that cash and put it back into our scene to make our scene grow..... because if it doesn't grow it will die!
It would also be cool for a place for the gamers to get together and discuss games or even set them up. I like gaming in person and i would love a place to talk to fellow gamers and set up things that you just can't set up in little hick towns up in the booney's.
Well now that i've said my piece........

better idea, START ONE. im not being a dick, im saying START ONE. really. more bands the merrier. fuck it. scenes need their own support.
Mercurygriffin wrote:good point. lets just try everything at least once and repeat the things that are enjoyable and maybe even please most everybodie in this so called scene.
merc man, your a genius sometimes.....

and no, knox isnt the gothest thing on two legs or anything, but damn if its not a good time so if you got a complaint, why not try to change stuff in your existance and not just sit on your ass looking at the computer whining about it. lets go out and try to book shit, make some bands of our own, really start something ya know? and before anyone points at me and say for me to do it, i already am...

so other than shamelessly plugging my attempts at a band: whos with me? lets go try to get some shit done, no bitching just action? if we book it they will come... if all harrass the acts we want to show (starting low and working our way up) we could enhance this scene all to hell.......

I would like to be the first to publicly take a shit on the word "goth"
i hate the age old discussion of 'is this goth, is that goth'. In fact its almost as retarded as 'i wish the djs would play new shit' everyone gets defensive and blah blah blah, and its a retarded thing anyway.
As far as bands go.....fuck, i've been trying to introduce everyone to these beat ass bands from knoxville, and even at that chattanooga and surrounding areas.....This scene has been (would it be goth if i said) DEAD ON ARRIVAL.
Whoever said, the reason we don't get good bands is cus no one will come out, or its at least very unsure is dead on. I've wanted to bring in some good acts to my tastes for quite sometime, but its such a gamble, that with Ivey's esp, and i'm sure anyone else....is so very unsure thats why they don't want to bring them in. Its NOT the bands, cus most bands that are on a bigger scale, get a guarantee before the night starts.....of course i'm sure that its really not a wanted thing to even take the money and perform infront of a dead audience...but thats besides the point.
Regardless, the simple solution is well....support your clubs. If they know you're gonna be out multiple times a week, they'll do more for you. Personally i know the management at Ivey's loves each and everyone of you. The owner constantly ends each leaving conversation with me with "I really love this crowd, they're such a live great bunch.....and they're professional drinkers, which is good on the buisiness end, but damnit even if they weren't we still have fun everytime they're here....." Now of course this comes from everyone supporting Skareoke, 80s Night, and other special promotions i've done there like, The Unsatisfied and etc etc etc.
If you want a big act thru here, or more time for the scene, go hang out at that said club, wheather its Iveys, Pilot Light, Blue Cats or whatever....and make sure you tell them how much you like it there.....that goes further than you think.
