An Anime Night?
I know alot of the board likes Anime, I know I do. What about having a night were we go to someones house and watch ALOT of it, I just bought and borrowed, like 4 box sets of Fantsy Anima and have alot of Others. If anyone would like to do this let me know and maybe we can work on it.

Hell yes i would love to do something like that. I'm a big fan of anime, i'm wanting to watch one in particular again, Demon City Sinjuko(sp????), and i love the one's with the uni-bikes. I think Venus Wars is cool, Just the throw a few out there, plus you just can't go wrong with VampireHunterD.
My thoughts are my bible, that's what I live by.

Yes, actually, you can. Case in point: Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. What an amazingly flawed, if gorgeous, film.
Gotta expect the flaws. It was made in America.
I've always wondered what it would be like to sacrifice a friend. Now that I know, I need to find another one.

That which was shall come to pass again...
I remember Anoki...though I never made it out to your place to watch. Also there was Amnesia, before that all fell apart. Obviously there are a number of anime fans (otakus?) on the board...the problem has never been lack of interest, but rather lack of space for a group of 10-20 people to watch in relative comfort...(and by comfort I mean able to smoke for some, and drink for most). Compromises can be arrived at, a little effort may be in order...

Actually, no, I don't gotta expect the flaws just because it was American. I, for one, appreciate the intangible aspect of Quality in everything, and expect it, scorning articles I feel lack it.
The script was okay. The change of Left Hand from seemingly bitter rival to comic relief was shit, and it failed horribly. And the voice was off.
Otherwise, things generally worked.
I think it would make for a far superior silent movie.

if we wait til after the 5th of august, we can house it at our house, too. we have lots of room, we can even have tv's set up in three differnt rooms. and our house is kid friendly, so if those who would want to come, can bring the kiddoes and play int he backyard with karin, or in the hosue in her room. we live in a safe neighborhood, so cars and kids will be perfectly alright.
we can do it weeknights and weekends, also. and you can drink and smoke...

What I find interesting is how many people I know who won't watch it with the English dub even though it was originally done in english.
You're right about hand. In the first movie, he's trying to get him to appeal to his vampire side( pretty much his" Human are cattle" side) and the second movie he was more Pro-Human.

Heck yeah, Anime Night!!
As far as sub vs. dub goes, I tend towards preferring the subtitles. There are a few rare occassions where I've found that I like the english dub better though.
Unfortunately, my anime exposure has been somewhat limited - limited to the things that my gamer friends recommend: Lain, Neon Genesis, .hack//sign, cowboy bebop Quite a bit of sci-fi and not a lot of fantasy. I'd like an opportunity to change that and see what else is out there that I've been missing

i like it when the anime has japanese subtitles, when its still in japanese. that amuses me...

Unless it was like "Mad Max" while it was filmed in english, the australian accents were SOOO strong that the film makers had the voices over dubbed by more american sounding actors so that american audiences wouldn't be put off by the accent and could fully understand the dialog

Hi all!
I just wanted to add that as a linguistic student I've made a lot of connections and friends, and so I have an immense amount of anime and manga, of various (and usually obscure) titles, so I'm very happy to help out should you guys want to watch some.
If you like supernatural comedy, especially so then; I have various supernatural comedies that are just screamingly funny and wonderful. But anyway, just thought I'd chip in and say my two bits.
Sincerely,
Tsuki
