Give Me Money, Give Me Sex, Give Me Gold And Cigarettes

Post by The Prophet Mani »

Wow, it's my very first post and I'm already askin' favors.

I'm looking for the Michael who used to DJ at The Mercury Theatre back in '97.

He's the only person I know who, at least at one time, had the Virgin Prunes' "...If I Die, I Die" on cd... and I need a copy. I know they're going to be re-releasing the album fairly soon but I'm jonesin' for it sooner than that.

I've not seen him since the Gary Numan show in Atlanta back in '98.

Any info would be s'well.

I thought it was beer...give me beer and cigarettes. Maybe I need to dig that out and give it a listen again.

Have you tried ebay? I know when I was looking for Batastrophe by Specimen, they had several up for auction on vinyl. Too bad I don't have a record player.

Oh yes, but I'm not willing to pay $70 on the secondary market. I'd much prefer to have a cd-r copy until the official re-release comes out... which is on it's way to me thanks to a friend in San Francisco. "...If I Die, I Die" is the only Virgin Prunes/Gavin Friday I'm lacking on cd.

As for Specimen, I've never seen Batastrophie on compact disc. When I get a new stylus for my turntable I'll burn a copy of it for you if'n you want.

--------

And thanks to all of you for the warm welcome.

Well, I guess I can't blame you there! I had never really checked in to Virgin Prunes, probably because I wasn't real crazy about Sons Find Devils.

I think most of the stuff off Batastrophe was on Wet Warm Cling Film Red Velvet Crush, which I have on cd, but if there happens to be a difference, I *might* have to take you up on that offer.

Lately I've been on a Behind the Scenes kick.

Sons Find Devils is not a good album to judge them by, they were definately a better studio band. ...If I Die, I Die is their classic deathrock album(more of the Cindytalk vein rather than the Specimen and Ausgang style) while most of their other material tends to be on the experimental side.

It's possible. I didn't really hang out with any knoxgoths, not because they were goths but cuz my friend quota was pretty much full. I'd usually go to the Merc with a girlfriend (either Jetta Boon, Laura Raymer, Heather Fielden, Holly McCort, or Amy Mack... depending on the month or year  ) and my time was taken with her.... unless a redneck would start something and then I'd be the first to help Jay (I think that was the security guy's name... hell, I should know, he wound up going out with my friend Mellissa for awhile) get them out the door.

If I went alone I'd just sit at the bar and talk to Michael while a song was on and drink those gawd-awful St. Ides Special Brew.

I guess I'm best remembered in Knoxville for running Cup-A-Joe for a year('96-'97).
