the novelty of death, the skewed glass we use to view it

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

the novelty of death, the skewed glass we use to view it

Post by junkie christ »

life.. alot of people lost it 2 years and a day ago. in the last 24 hours, a few more. these were just better known.
1 - why are we so surprised or saddened by death? esp when we dont even know these people...
2 - what is it about death that motivates people?
3 - why are people so afraid of it?
YOUR ALIVE. YOU WILL DIE. basic fucking equation. rocket science, this is NOT.yet we are amazed... dont you always look when you see a car wreck? what are you looking for? fear of death dominates NO ONE. fear of failure is what rules you. how much your letting yourself see around you... how much you will do BOTH constrained by the fear of failure. and people fight me on that, but i think its their fear of failure that they are wrong........ see how it becomes cyclic? life doesnt have that commidity. it just ENDS. you make MORE or the wheel STOPS. but really man, all things fade. your gonna die. im gonna die. should we go on and start mourning now? look at the fuckers that cant even live their lives as is. wasting away. oh ill get a job one day. ill get that divorce one day. ill goto college one day. THERE IS NO FUCKING ONE DAY. THERE IS NO FUCKING TOMORROW. THERE IS NO FUCKING YESTERDAY.
THATS BEING DEAD TO ME..... whats the fucking difference man? all these people morning im seeing everywhere...
fuck it all, ill see you in the dirt.
the really funny thing is when christians get all saddened by death. THATS LIKE THE FUCKING HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR RELIGION!??!?! GOING TO HEAVEN!!?!?!?!?!? ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ive got my answers to these, i just want yours.

1 - I think it'z an emotional response & emotionz tend not 2 abide by their own reazon & logic (Az a Cancer, I'v had 2 cum 2 gripz with that fact).
2 - I think that the threat or realization of death motivatez peepz like watching an hour glass running out... they feel an urgency 2 complete the thingz they'v not taken the time 4 n the past... a deadline (so 2 speak).
3 - Death, 2 me, iz just a transition n2 another state of being; not sumthing 2 fear. Most peepz fear change & th' unknown... dunno why... Although sum of th' ideas of afterlife held by certain religionz could send n e 1 n2 a panic if they truly believe that'z what awaitz them beyond death.

I don't fear death- I've been near death before, via hypothermia. Not bad, really. Happy happy, sleepy sleepy... I highly suggest it. ;)

What scares me personally is dying painfully, like a nasty car wreck or something, hanging on for months in vicious pain before finally kicking the bucket. Blargh.

As for other people dying, I hurt for their families/friends, but not them. They died, they're not the ones really hurting. At least, not that I know...

Yeah, it's annoying, the whole death=evil thing. If we didn't die, how overpopulated would this place get? I don't like people enough to want to live shoulder-to-shoulder with them my whole life, not to mention the lack of food and shelter we'd all have. Death is a Good Thing. It's natural. Gives me space. Affords me food.

I'm actually looking very forward for death. . . I'm 16, and I've had enough of this place. From day one on this planet, you're told what to do, and how to do it. It's either society's way or the highway. I just wish a bus would come crashing through the goddamn wall and kill me. Oh well. Heh.
I'm not the type of person who slits his wrists or anything. . . and I too have wondered about why christians (or anyone for that matter) fear death. Fuck it.
Crucify those who would suppress your beliefs due to their own insecurity.

For me it is'nt a fear of failure, it is more a saddness that I would miss certain events. Especially in the life of my daughter. I imagine different things scare people about death.

I had my wisdom teeth cut out about two years ago. To preform this operation they decided to put me into "twilight sleep" twilight sleep is not quite awake and not quite unconscience. I was scared because less than a year earlier my friends mom was put under at the same hospital and never woke up. So the day came, I went into the oral surgery room and they started the IV drip and had me count backward from ten. At ten I was afraid this could be my last ten seconds on the planet by seven I did'nt care anymore and that is the last thing I remeber. That was the scariest thing for me later on. I had gotten to a point where I accepted my fate and I was alright with it. Something about that just bothered me.

Why do we fear it? cus its human.

Why do we hold people that we've never met's deaths get to us....personally, i think its sympathies for others that suffer loss, if they're famous- its cus they've somehow had some effect on our lives....its like a piece of childhood being crushed, or taken away.

People can say they don't fear death, i'll say it right now...i don't fear death, in truth, i don't TOTALLY. See i fear post death things...like if i die of anything other than natural causes, i SOOOO don't want my body cut up, autopsies scare me shitless. I also think that i fear letting people down, or rather making people cry...so yeah, thats all retarded and stuff.

I've been clinically dead 2 times, thats why i occasionally have a stuttering problem- it sucks- that included with being surrounded by death all of my life, and of course suffering the losses that i have, i've grown to disregard death somewhat. I do still think that death will be fun, and i often compare it to a super orgasm.

ok yeah, I now sound like a weirdass.....
I'm a big bright shining star......

1- We are surprised because, from the earliest age, we are taught that death is an unpleasant experience, and thus we don't think about it. Death is shunted to the side at every opportunity, so that conversations can move to more lighthearted topics. Grief is saddening, and no one wishes to deal with it. With all the backlog of diverting thought from death, it is a shock when we are forced to look it in the face and acknowledge its existence. Everyone knows that life, at least this one depending on your belief structure, does not last forever, but no one enjoys the confrontation of this fact. We are saddened by death because we are selfish. It isn't that they are dead, it is that we will never see them again. Sadness comes from things undone, words unsaid, wounds unhealed. We do not grieve because they are dead, we grieve because they are lost to us. Our loss, not their death. If we knew the person well, perhaps we also grieve because we know of things they never did, words they never said.
Live your life with thought and without regret, saying everything that needs to be said so that no lose ends are left.
2- Death motivates the living, because they realize what they want to do before they die. When mortality strikes, especially early mortality, we wonder what they could have done if they had lived longer. And wonder what we could do, if only we'd get off the couch. And know that, if a bus runs us over in the morning, we'll never know. It also motivates because keeping busy will keep one's mind off of... death.
3-People fear death because they fear the unknown. We can't know what happens to us after we die until we die, and stepping off that cliff in the dark is scary. Is it nothingness? Is there an afterlife? Will we be reborn again, to learn something we missed this time around? People also fear that they will never see their loved ones again, and know that their death will mean hurting said loved ones. No one enjoys hurting those they love. People fear being forgotten... without the constant reminder of their life being around, they fear that they will slip from memory quickly as people move on. No one wants to be forgotten by everyone they knew.

I fear dying before I've kicked enough people in the balls.

I have a quota, you know.

The way I see death is that it is the end of THIS life. So what! It is more like a reset botton than anything. You may get a better one, you may get a shit life in a third world county( assuming this is the only world you can be born back on to.) I have goals but as far as that goes I'm not going to be to pissed if I'm dead now am I?
