1959 Dodge Coronet - Push Button Transmission actually

Post by Black Metallic »

Anyone have any knowledge on these? Are the fairly stable? I'd hate to have to replace it if I buy this car. The engine needs lots of work, but since its a slant 6, I can live with that. Once I get it restored it will run forever. The transmission worries me - or its it something that is pretty bullet proof?

Thanks

Im sorry, I got the two I'm looking at wrong. The dodge has a v8 - the Valiant has the slant 6.

Still looking for help :)

While the Slant 6 is an oddball engine they are quite solid.

The push button transmission should be fine. Unless its had some major damage done to it, or you do some to it (going from forward to reverse without stopping) you'll be fine. Not exactly sure how the linkages work but its all hydraulic so I probably just opens and or closes some part.

BUT i'm not really sure about the different models of that transmission. You'll probably do better going to a collectors forum and asking there.
There is no replacement for displacement.

I find out TOMORROW if I get both the Coronett and a 65 Ford Galaxie - I am trading in my Expedition for both of them and getting some cash in return...The Galaxie is a 352 with 300hp - and is black on black..it is like someone is smiling at me...and since it looks like I can get two cars and 8k in cash back well I might be in Knoville sooner rather than later :)

Wish me luck!
Its all about the oontz.
