A restless night
I couldn't sleep,
So I took a walk
Down a nearby street.
Fog so thick
The streetlights blurred,
I knew I was steppin'
Away from this world.
Smell of lilac and
Taste of cinnamon
Brought the vision of the
Girl who made me a Tom,
Catwalkin' around this station.
A stopover on the road of livin',
Just a whistlestop
for my own givin'.
She immolated my heart and
Gave me so much pain,
But I got a daughter who
Grants me moonshine in rain.
So give me the fog to
Soften an eidelweiss cut,
Of time spent in love
With an unethical slut.
I don't feel sorrow
For "could have" and "maybe",
Because "what if" was yesterday
And today is just gravy.
Me walkin' in that fog to
Soften the harsh light of reality,
It don't matter that my girl
Is a thousand miles away
Because she calls her Daddy
Every other day.
You can see me stridin'
Down that street
Unheard music givin'
Pace to my feet
'Cause the fog is there
On those restless evenings
From the heart of darkness given
Life's best little reasonings.
