Any suggestions on how to fertilize/ cultivate/ improve this nasty red rocky dirt for gardening?

You have to "ammend" the soil...adding hummus (not the dip) and other good stuff...

Last spring I built myself a compost heap...compost is good to mix into the dirt.

I just got a bunch of 2x4..made a box frame and staple gunned chicken wire around it...I however..keep forgetting to put stuff on it *doh*

Hummus? What is that? Can I pick it up at Wally World or Lowes?
