Zombie Flicks

Post by Monophonic »

Man, the new trailers for the Dawn of the Dead remake are looking
better and better. I wasn't too jazzed about them remaking one of my
favorite movies at first. (don't fix what isn't broke!) But I must say,
the new zombies look bitchin'! what are some of your favorite zombie
flicks?

some of my faves:

George Romero's "Dead" trilogy
Zombie
Return of the living dead
Versus
Psychomania
Junk
Wild Zero

I do love me some zombies. I prefer the slow moving rotting types that will eventually get you though sheer numbers and your poorly judged reliance on your living "buddies."

Absoulte favorites:

Dawn of the Dead
Bad Taste and Brain Dead (Funny!)
Night of the Living Dead. Both. I think that the remake did have some merits, besides finally getting around the public domain distribution of the original.
Dellamorte Dellamore
Zombie
Redneck Zombies (Funny!)
Day of the Dead
Psychomania - It has been so long since I saw this, but I remember loving it. The frogs creeped me out.

Decent, fun romps:
28 Days Later
Versus
Gates of Hell
The Beyond
Return of the Living Dead III - Coulda been a contender...
Children Shouldn't Play WIth Dead Things

I will go to see the DOTD revisioning. It has potential. It is not a remake - Unlike the NOTLD remake, the characters are all different, just put in a similar situation. Think of it more as just another cool zombie film that will only help Romero get Dead Reckoning off the ground if it is well received.

We have several experts in zombie cinema on the board, and none of us agree on anything! :D I'm just a movie nut in general. You could have asked what our favorite war movies are and I would have responed.

Zombie Holocaust...Did that one involve a Union Carbide like chemical spill as the cause? I think I do remember seeing that many years ago...An Italian gross out I think, but not a Fulci film.

Hmmm... I'm milling through some of my collection. The ones that jump out at me are usually for the wrong reasons. heh.

Night of the Zombies - decent. not bad. not great either.

Oasis of the Zombies - Most people I talk to either love Jess Franco films or totally loathe them. I dig em' myself. Its been awhile since I've viewed this one. I don't remember it being his best work.

Gore-met Zombie Chef from Hell - Bad. just f'kn bad. I'll give it points for its wacky plot. but even the camerawork made my eyes hurt.

The Video Dead - I'm gonna re-watch this one tonight. I remember it being kinda unintentionally funny.

seriously though... Fulci is god.

Now I do believe this movie has been mentioned before, but I forgot to mentiuon the upcoming British film, Shaun of the Dead. As far as i can see from the HILARIOUS trailer and reviews, this is a Dawn of the Dead style zombie comedy that is set firmly in the Romero universe. Not officially, but you know what I mean...This is what is happening during Dawn of the Dead on the other side of the pond. I absolutely cannot wait for this, as this movie will own all.

Do check it out. Opens in England in April, and "Bob" willing here soon after.

Jeezus... The Shaun of the Dead trailer rocks! I've read a few tidbits about it, but thats the first time I've seen the trailer. It makes me want to see it. bad.

Have any of you been checking up on the 2 Return of the Living Dead sequels that are in the works? You can check out a little info on em' over at:

I haven't been visiting UHM for long, but it seems to be a pretty cool site.

I read that EB Games would be giving out free posters and passes to Dawn of the Dead in select areas. Called a local shop this morning, and they just received the posters, but have no passes yet. The guy said this area may not have a screening, but to check back.

I for one, would be very up for seeing this movie early and for free. If I confirm any place that actually has free screening pases on hand, I will post them here.

I've been watching a lot of zombie films lately... Jim your gonna have to get your ass up to Oak Ridge and we'll have a zombie filmfest marathon. Just be sure to bring the Jack Daniels.
I'm sooo looking forward to remake of DOTD though, just had zombies on the brain quite a bit lately. (no pun intended)

Last few nights I've watched:
Monday - Dawn of the Dead (Romero's 1978 classic)
Tuesday - Night of the Living Dead (Romero's 1968 classic)
and last night Dawn and I watched Return of the living Dead. Now that's a classic. I can't wait for the new sequels.

Does anybody remember C.H.U.D.? I have not seen it in years, may have to go out and rent it on VHS. I remember they made a sequel to it "C.H.U.D. II, Bud the Chud" that was a really terrible take on Day of the Dead and it's gentle zombie. How stupid.
Blah, anyway, great to see such a zombie renaissance taking place in the western world. Hell, maybe Romero will do a 4th movie in his "Dead" series. Seems like Asia is the only place that kept the genre afloat throughout the 90s with the Resident Evil video game series and movies like "Junk", "Verses" and "Wild Zero"... oh, and don't forget about "Biozombie" and "Stacy".

yes! biozombie was friggin' hilarious. and stacey had it moments too. like the army's zombie destruction unit... what was it called? the romero hit squad... or kill squad...? good stuff.
