My son is on 40 mg of Strattera a day (in the morning) because he can't take stimulants. I wish the doc would up his dose, because it doesn't seem to do shit for him.

He hasn't had any side effects, however, if he takes it without eating, he often gets nauseated and sometimes spews.

How many mg's are you on?

Never taken it.

But,Zoloft and Wellbutrin for ADHD?????
WTF?
I'm on 300mgs of Zoloft and started at 25mgs, one thing that I can say about Zoloft is that is deffinately lessens your attention span. As far as Wellbutrin goes, I was only on 50mgs and all it did was make me confused and angry. That doctor was wacked for even thinking of putting you on those meds.
Yes, I have wished you were dead. You are just another face in the crowd, someone who brings me suffering, someone I truely hate.

i have been on ALOT of different meds. celexa, effexor, wellbutrin, zoloft, prozac. the list goes on. and so far, i think all of them are worthless, they didn't help me worth a shit.
celexa- ha yeah right is this drug supposed to be a joke!
effexor- helps, but gave me MAJOR withdraw problems if i missed one dose.
wellbutrin- is this a drug or vitamin, because either way, its not doing shit!
zoloft-zzzzzzzzzz sleepy time, no sex drive, too busy sleeping
prozac-can we say freak the fuck out!

but yes, any of the above would be great for add :okfucktard:

nothing the crazy bitch suggested was even relatively similar to anything to treat adhd. and i know because i have been on them all. 1 suggestion; NEW DOCTOR!

While, I agree 2 sum xtent with Love, I do think that there r thoze who can benefit from prescriptive psychiatric drugz. I think that doctorz waaayyy overprescribe them now & that many peepz uze this az a crutch or way ov avoiding a real solution ... I could b given n-e # ov medz just by talking 2 a Dr - only been on lithium b4 (sucked!) - but I decided that I wanted 2 find my own way 2 deal with my mental st8 rather than relying on a substance 4 my sanity & having 2 suffer the side-effectz. 4 thoze who r less capable ov self-management, tho, medz may b their best option temporarily or long-term ... When it cumz 2 putting kidz on such drugz, I think that it can set up an unhealthy pattern ov dependency & lack ov self-discipline which they may never overcum ... it should b dun only if all else failz, imo

Though your argument may be true, it's rarely the case. The sad fact is that most doctors resort to drugs fairly quickly.

"Doctors" especially love giving kids drugs because it's an excuse for the "doctors" not to have to do any real work and so they can give the RX companies cash money. This also keeps insurance companies on their toes and thinking they have a right to dictate which doctor you see or even if the child needs treatment.

The kid may also be bored in class. The work may be too hard or maybe even too easy.

Another very likely possibility is that the kid is just plain stupid. In that case much has to be done in order to reverse this, and I assure you that school is NOT the answer...ever.

I always wondered though...if you think to yourself that you're taking a medication to be normal...wouldn't that make you a little...you know...depressed?

lalala...When I'm on Adderall or Ritalin...I put up with a lot more bullshit and I do it with a smile on my face. Figure that out. innuendo

edit: NON-STIMULANT??? That's why I love Adderall and Ritalin! lines and lines and lines and...you get the point.

Wow, this has pissed me off so fucking bad I'm shaking.

You are such a good troll Logic. Really, the best I've ever seen. Your ability to piss people off is amazing. Your ignorance combined with your run of the mill intelligence is a great combination for getting a rise out of people. Your type is responsible for great things like the holocaust and "the bell curve".

My son is 9 years old and tests in the 99th percentile on the TCAPs, is being tested for the talented and gifted program, and reads on a high school level and he is in the 3rd grade. He is amazingly more intelligent than you are, which makes me very proud. As long as he turns out NOTHING like you, I'll consider my job as parent successful.

I'll respond more once I collect my thoughts and can form coherent sentences.

I just want to say that marijuana and other illegal substances are just ways of self-medicating. Plus, you get in a hell of a lot more trouble if you are caught with them.

I was very very anti medication. I figured all children off the street would be diagnosed with ADHD and every adult diagnosed with depression. My mother is a psychiatric nurse, and I always said, "just let me go crazy before you put me on all this shit."

I went a long time before I allowed him to be put on anything, but if you are ever around my child you will see his above average intelligence is severely hampered by his attention problems. It causes trouble at school, and at home. After having many parent/teacher conferences and many teacher complaints, I decided to try medication.

I am extremely against chemical dependence.I don't drink but occasionally, don't smoke or do illegal drugs. I however, allowed myself to go on medication after 21 years of panic attacks, depression, and even one hospitalization because I was suicidally depressed. Nothing was working, and medication has made all the difference.

i'm with buttercup. i have been on enough drugs myself and been through enough to know that medication does make a difference. yes, doctors are quick to that perscription, but that doesn't necessarily mean that drugs are the wrong way to go.

besides "love", do you even have a child? it takes alot to be a parent, but it takes major patience and super balls to be a parent of a kid with add/adhd, a good parent atleast. they are a stronger person than i. and i don't care to admit that, i sure as hell wouldn't be able to do it. i live with 2 dogs, 2 puppies, and a roomie that scores off the charts for add, and that is enough for me. the puppies are enough to make me want to pull my hair out, i can't even imagine having a kid.

Wow. For the second time, you have proven that you are an utter dick. At first I had you pegged as a troll – just a shit stirrer with no real interest in the site. But you must have pleaded your case and were welcomed back to try again. I think that you really do want to contribute to discussion on this site, not just stir up trouble for your own evil purposes. You just happen to have no regard for anyone else or intentionally want to attack him or her for the sheer pleasure it gives you - Yes, a complete dick.

What amazes me is that I can agree with some of what you are saying, as you will see, yet watch: I do not call anyone stupid, wish them dead, tell them they are a bad parent.

Begin rant against the pharmacutical industry
I do feel that the FDA and the pharmaceutical industry are as demonic and money grubbing as any blanket agency (like the RIAA for example), caring little for people as they claim to, with more concern for the bottom line. We have gotten SO capitalistic that it is becoming self-defeating in some areas. This is why medication such as Lipitor, THE medication for high cholesterol, does not have a generic and affordable alternative - copyright. This should be addressed in congress prior to deciding rather I have the right to sue Burger King over their wonderful Whoppers. This is why the FDA does not want people buying drugs in Canada. They say safety, but it is really about money.

Pharmaceutical companies have found another way to make money, taking a cue from the appeal of illegal drugs’ popularity. There are many illegal drugs that affect behavior and have been know to have beneficial effects. Most are natural, and cannot be copyrighted. So they are made illegal while man made alternatives, on which you can legally make a profit, are legal. Combine these perception altering drugs with aggressive advertising that would make Coke and Pepsi blush, and you begin to see that more people see this as an acceptable solution, even the right and approved solution, for a problem they may or may not have. It is equivalent to a model on a magazine telling women "this is how you should look." Only they are telling us "this is how you should feel."

Do behavior modification drugs have their uses? Yes, most certainly. Are they over prescribed? Probably. They are certainly over advertised. The problem as I see it lies not with the doctors or the patients, but with the pharmaceutical companies and advertising making more potential customers than really need the medication. Being shy or introverted is not a disease and Enzyte will not increase the size of your penis.
End rant against the pharmacuetical industry

WOW!!!! Well eveyone has a very valid point....Love in the future when stating your arguement..........dont put things like "I do lines of ritalin" at the end. Voids your arguement completely. Makes you look like a druggie.
and futhermore, its people who buy my meds off the street and snort them, is why I am having a REALLY hard time getting my medicine.......ruins it for people who really do have problems. and as for non stimulants It sucks ass. I woulld much rather be on stimulant.....but ask a dr for them and theyll kick your ass outta the office.....raises the "oh no they might be selling ritalin on the street so little shits can snort it" flag. and just in case you are wondering...I have been through 3 dr appts and trying to get my medicine since last november.........talk about firey hoops.
I am 26 yrs old. and I have ALWAYS had ADHD. I wasnt diagnosed till I was 19 but thats only because someone thankfully caught it. I STRUGGLED through school. I dont want to get into the symptoms but my grades went from low Cs to straight As. Im not stupid. Hey Buttercup, did you know that most kids with ADHD score into the genius level IQ scores??????? WEre too smart.! Anyway, anyone that truely knows me knows I dont even do drugs......Im a nerd....and I am really smart.
Love is right. ADD and ADHD is WAY overdiagnosed....you know that Southpark episode? Its right. Thats hurt people like me too.....who really do have ADHD.My half brother is on it (ritalin)......I cant live and function without my medicine, yet my brothers doctor puts him on such a rediculously low level of the medicine theres not really a poiint of giving it to him........and he's a zombie on it.....becasue he doesnt need it. I on the other hand am a classic case of ADHD...Ask anyone who knew me on the meds before I was a lot happier, did what I needed to do and functioned A LOT BETTER...and ritalin and such other drugs are "supposed" to be given to a patient so theycan adjust and get used to living a normal life........its not a drug you stay on forever.. It will kill your liver and kidneys....I wont. However the longer I am off of it, the nature of the beast, is that I forget how to be normal and think properly. But I have to have ADD medicine like a bipolar person need theirs. I wont die without it, but I can function much better with it.If I could handle my shit without ritalin, dont think I wouldnt get off this medicine. I LOATHE pills. I hate the responsibility of having to remember to take that shit EVERYDAY! But I cant, that why after 3 years I again saught help for it.
Love you are also right about it being the parents fault but not really. ADHD/ ADD is genetic.........just as much as your eyecolor and stubby fingers, and your personality......so I can blame my dad, if I really wanted to.
And my mother deserves a freakin medal for raising my ADD ass with no medicine. I was a handful, and much like Buttercup, she raised me on her own. Any parent who does that deserves a fucking medal! I thank her every chance I get, However it seems rediculous to her for me to do so.......its just what you do when you love someone.

on a side note....I really wanted dexedrine...the med I was on which was a stimulant. But you know what...........Its HIGHLY ADDDICTIVE and HIGHLY DEPENDANT..........If I missed a dose, I had withdrawls and was a complete waste of flesh I was so lethargic.. Im am a bit thankful that I got this med instead. I dont wanna be an addict. Buttercup be THANKFUL, your child wasnt put on it........I still sometimes have nervous twitches and its been 3 years!

I ate this morning and I am not sick on my medicine today...I am starting to feel the affects.....but I am not violently ill like yesterday......God I am starting to feel like my old self again....MUST CLEAN SOMETHING!

Further proof on the need to medicate children......and lets not get started on the ability that a certain persons parents have on raising him.......

I'm very, very anti-medication.

However, I have known quite a few people whose bodies cannot create enough of certain chemicals - neurotransmitters, if you will - and due to this said chemical imbalance, actually have need to take medication to get along in society.

Most of them have been highly intelligent people, I might add.

I do have to agree though, that there are a lot of parents who'd rather just eliminate the symptoms their children exhibit, rather than dealing with the cause of the problems themselves. Sadly, this is the case for many children who have to live their childhood and adolescent years doped up.

Having been on 1,200 mg of Lithium throughout my teen years, I can personally vouche for that.

Cases such as these do not, however, mean that all children fall into this category.

Blanket statements and over generalizations pave the road to self-induced ignorance.

Be aware.
