THE DRAFT IS NOW IN SIGHT.
Pending Draft Legislation Targeted for Spring 2005
The Draft will Start in June 2005
There is pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills: S 89 and HR 163) which will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin at early as Spring 2005 ? just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately.
$28 million has been added to the 2004 Selective Service System (SSS) budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. Selective Service must report to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation. Please see website: http://www.sss.gov/perfplan_fy2004.html to view the sss annual performance plan ? fiscal year 2004.
The pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide.. Though this is an unpopular election year topic, military experts and influential members of congress are suggesting that if Rumsfeld's prediction of a "long, hard slog" in Iraq and Afghanistan [and a permanent state of war on "terrorism"] proves accurate, the U.S. may have no choice but to draft.
Congress brought twin bills, S. 89 and HR 163 forward this year, http://www.hslda.org/legislation/na...s89/default.asp entitled the Universal National Service Act of 2003, "to provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons [age 18--26] in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes." These active bills currently sit in the committee on armed services.
Dodging the draft will be more difficult than those from the Vietnam era.
College and Canada will not be options. In December 2001, Canada and the U.S. signed a "smart border declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada's minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, and U.S. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30-point plan which implements, among other things, a "pre-clearance agreement" of people entering and departing each country. Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year.
Even those voters who currently support US actions abroad may still object to this move, knowing their own children or grandchildren will not have a say about whether to fight. Not that it should make a difference, but this plan, among other things, eliminates higher education as a shelter and includes women in the draft.
The public has a right to air their opinions about such an important decision.
Please send this on to all the friends, parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and cousins that you know. Let your children know too ? it's their future, and they can be a powerful voice for change!
Please also contact your representatives to ask them why they aren't telling their constituents about these bills &mdash and contact newspapers and other media outlets to ask them why they're not covering this important story.

kerry has already said he wants to reorganize our troops so we dont have to draft

Okay, I know I just posted this link on another thread, but it's REALLY important to get out and vote this time. If you don't vote, you don't get the right to bitch about who wins the election.

I heard about this a few months back from someone with their ear to the ground. No, it's not being reported & probably won't be unless everyone makes a huge stink about it.
This scares the piss out of me. My kids are just a few years away from being potentially draftable. We need a fucking regime change over here!
Canada keeps sounding better & better...

if you were even a partial citizen at the time the draft was enstated, youd still be drafted if your number was pulled.

This really scares me.
Well honey, I know you're not old enough to vote, but there's a lot of people trying to get that stupid president out of office. I am proud to say I am one of them.
If you haven't already-check out some of the (serious) animations on my sig link. Bush and his buddies are out of their freakin' minds!

Thank you.
Yup, I'll miss voting by a few weeks. I don't particularly like Kerry either, but a vote for anyone other than Bush is just that -one less for him.
I really dislike America. I'm afraid of the future here. My boyfriend has a heart condition so he's safe from the draft, thank God. And I'm really out of shape and probably wouldn't make it through basic training, if that even matters. But what about other things, like social security? My generation will never see it. Nuclear war is scary and seems inevitable. I'd like to live my life in peace how I choose, and know that my future children can one day do the same. But that doesn't seem possible right now.
Scary.

Yes, I have wished you were dead. You are just another face in the crowd, someone who brings me suffering, someone I truely hate.

If I recall correctly, the way the draft works is that they draw months as lots, and they pull one age range at a time. So they will pull all of the eligible 18 year olds in the country who were born in whatever month order determined by the draw before moving to the 19 year olds. This repeats up until the 26 year-old cut off or they have ruined the lives of enough people to satisfy their whims. At the 26 year-old mark, if they still need more people, they have to go to congress and request additional powers and new draft guidelines.

Inside my Rock Against Bush vol 2 CD it say's:
"He (Bush) refused to buy adequate body armor for our troops in Iraq. A study done by a defense consultant reveals that approximately 25% of casualties could have been prevented with better armor."
WTF is up with that?!
check out this flyer.

the twins are 22. and you bet your ass they wouldn't be serving if drafted.
and if you go here it has some interesting info and some more links to read up on this.
I post this not because I'm a Bush supporter, cause I'm not..but because it was pointed out to me when I posted this same article about the draft a while back.

Satan's kitten beat me to it but to add a little bit more information.

The Big Question
The big question here is, how much will the American people take before inciting the Second American Revolution? The power is and always has been with the masses if they choose to exercise it. Will it be the reinstatement of the draft which finally pushes us over the edge or will we wait until the Police State takes over? Will that even be enough to make us stand up and overthrow this corrupt unconstitutional government? I'm not talking about the election, I'm talking about millions upon millions of people marching on Washington DC. Not in protest, but to occupy every street, every building, every subway, every square inch of the capitol. Yes, National Guard and Army troops will be ordered to fire on civilians and some of the units will obey, but that will only cement the resolve of the rest and eventually we will have government by the people, of the people, for the people again. The more they tighten their grip, the more will slip through their fingers. My sources tell of truckloads of signs already being secretly shipped all across the country, ready to be set up when needed. What do these top-secret signs say? "Police State in Effect" It's already being planned for, people. The draft is one straw, the suspension of free elections will be another and the police state will be another. Will the camel's back break or will it finally turn and spit in the eye of the fascists who have taken over this country? Time will tell. The most effective way to stop the draft will be for every one who is drafted to refuse to go. Not some, but every single person drafted must refuse to show up for "service." Many will be arrested and detained, but soon it would put a stop to this notion that our bodies, minds and souls are owned and controlled by the state. The End is near, and I'm not talking about a dance party.

Both the snopes link and the urbanlegends.about.com link say that the draft is not likely but the bills j_c mentions are very real. Wether they ever get passed or not - it's worth noting that there are a group of politicians who are pushing for this.
oh, and judas - I still have yet to see you come up with a single sound argument for voting for Bush. I understand you said, in another thread, that you have difficulty conveying your opinions over the computer - but if he was actually worth voting for, don't you think you could come up with at least one?
