Your Avatar Is Too Big

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Your Avatar Is Too Big

Post by darkvader »

It's that time again.

I've noticed that many of you have avatars and signatures that exceed the maximum allowable size.

From the KnoxGothic FAQ:
    6. Signature pictures are currently allowed. Please keep the pictures in the realm of good taste. Signatures should be no more than 75X468 pixels, with a file size no larger than 40KB. If this privilege becomes an issue, sig pics will be disallowed.

    7. Avatars may be no larger than 128X128 pixels, with a file size no larger than 40KB. Avatars exceeding these dimensions may be removed without warning.

As I'm lazy, rather than just deleting them myself, I'm going to ask you to fix them. If you haven't fixed them within a week or so, I'm going to start deleting them.

If that doesn't work, the avatar feature on here CAN be disabled. Don't make me do it.

If you're new to graphics and linking avatars, or just too poor to afford a commercial program to resize those monster avatars of yours, there's a spiffy free application available called The GIMP, available in binary / EXE format as well as a source code distribution.

Scratch that. I couldn't sleep, so I've added a mod to make sure your avatar isn't going to display larger than 128x128.

Now, just make sure your signature isn't larger than allowed, and make sure that your avatar and signature are not bigger than 40 KB.

If this means you can't use your cool moving avatar/sig - tough. Some people are still using 56K modems, including one of the admins. (no, not me. I couldn't stand it. This old iBook I use does only have an 800x600 screen, though - so the oversize sigs WILL be noticed.)

What, you mean the avatar space on KG isn't supposed to be my own little animated GIF movie theater? And here I had a full 2 hour feature length avatar I've been working on...

ok, ok.... I'll cram what I can into 40K

Hey Griffin,

Remember when you asked me to make a morph animation for you and it was 1.2 MEGAbytes? and you put it up as your avatar on KG...

:ebonk:

Maybe that's why the DJs are trying to kill you every month... Vader must have put a bounty on your head...

Yeah. Do you really think it would be worth the money to have him killed?

I think that I can emulate that.
