Not at all Catholic, but still entertained & intrigued by these highly ceremonial folk. I think I heard that only 6% of Catholics worldwide are American, but I still know a few.
This particular aspect of the papacy effects me by making me laugh my ass off, though!
Good one Merc! The resemblance is just wonderful!

This affects me because one of my friend's little brothers is an altar boy. And if this pope is going to tell him to keep mouth shut if the priest touches him, I'm sure as hell going to raise my voice.
If she were a street gang, I'd go to war with her with bottles and chains.

What are your sources for this statement? Or even, what did the pope say/do that you are taking this from?
"I'm eating Oriental flavored Ramen Noodles(I wonder if oriental people really taste like this mmmmm)"

My guess is this:
From SNAP- The Survivors Network of Those Abused By Priests
"Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI, is a polarizing figure to many, who seems to prefer combativeness to compromise and compassion. Still, we wish him well.
We're upset that, years ago, he apparently quietly scuttled a Vatican probe into allegations that the prominent founder of the Legion of Christ, Fr. Marciel Macial, sexually abused at least nine boys.
On the other hand, we're encouraged that just a few months ago, that investigation was re-opened."

And from USA Today:
"He once called homosexuality a tendency toward "intrinsic moral evil" and called the outcry over pedophilia by priests in the USA a "planned campaign" against the church."

It seems that things are getting blown out of proportion. Especially with the Nazi stuff. Come on, how could he, as a German boy of fourteen NOT have joined Hitler Youth? It was mandated by law. And he was also a deserter from the army. Not that I am praising or defending the Pope's past... I have limited information.
Besides, he's a bad mama-jama in the Catholic world, or so I've heard. His nickname is "God's Rottweiler." I'll stay out of his way, thanks. Germans wielding world power frighten me (and I'm full blooded Kaiser).
Sure, I'll try to be nicer, if you try to be smarter.
I think I should say that I didn't hear the whole Hitler Youth thing til after I posted that. Also, I am NOT anti-Catholic, however I do have a problem with any man (or woman, for that matter) that turns a blind eye to blatant child abuse.
If she were a street gang, I'd go to war with her with bottles and chains.

it is more an issue of respect (at least for me, it is). like i stated in the thread about Pope John Paul II's death, some of us are Catholic and we would appreciate if the the amount of respect we show you, returned. i would never ever say ill things about someone because of religion, race or gender. everyone cries for equality and tolerence, but it seems only be when it is popular. im sorry if that offends anyone, but it is true.
i am not condoning or defending the whole priest and sexual abuse controversy. i think it is atrocious, but have you noticed that the US is the only country that seems ahve issues with this? and when young women are molested by preists, it is not as big, news wise. when protestant preachers are involved in such scandals, it usually does not hit nationwide news...
just please think about what you say, before you post it.

Having a negative opinion about a religious leader does not make you disrespectful of the whole religion. No one said the pope was a bad guy because he was catholic. He's a bad guy because he's ignoring important issue in his church. I don't think anyone in this thread did anything disrespectful at all, just stating facts.

i have to agree with Russo. child abuse is a big issue in america, but sexual abuse is something people are afraid to speak of and honestly i know alot of people that would mob up and take down someone like that. but for a man of high respect to do that think of what the world would end up like? i mean seriously america was all bent out of shape went Clinton got a blow job from that lady. it was no ones buisness but thats the world for you. anything of that sort comes up it always conflicts into something. but if i knew of something like that going on i would have to speak just like russo said.

Um, hold on, I think you are confused.
No one has accused the Pope of molesting anyone. Period. That's not what we're discussing.
And "that lady" with Clinton... pretty big issue, she has a name and everything.
I don't see how anyone can possibly compare Clinton to the Pope.
