An introduction of sorts. . .

Post by TheLustfulElf »

Greetings and salutations or some such similar nonsense,

My name is Wes and I just discovered this site this evening and thought that I would perhaps introduce myself although I warn you I'm notoriously bad at this sort of thing, I never know what to say and do tend to ramble so you'll have to excuse me if you will. I've lived in the Knoxville area for about 9 months now though I've had little time to meet anyone outside of the people I live with and those I have worked with and know very little more about the area. I moved here from Dothan, Alabama. A rather small little city in the southeastern corner near the borders of Florida and Georgia. As to why I moved here, my best friend since high school and his wife (also a friend from high school) moved up here some time ago with my goddaughter and after much persuasion and a short visit convinced me to move up here with them after I decided to call it quits on a floundering business venture back home. I have to say although I know Knoxville isn't the most glamorous place on earth that in comparison to where I'm from I'm quite pleased with it overall at least what little I've experienced as of yet.

I'm a Gemini, and yes I do take astrology somewhat seriously as I've found it to be fairly accurate in personality profiling over the years (though I hold very little stock with daily forecasts). As such my tastes in all things tend to run the spectrum of diversity. I've yet to meet any genre of music I find totally distasteful though I certainly have my preferences. A thumbnail sketch (which is all I can give without boring you to tedium with a list unending) of my favorite musicians would include: The Changelings, Tori Amos, Concrete Blonde, Rush, Dead Can Dance, The Cure, Poe, Aqua, Cowboy Mouth, Ani DiFranco, Disturbed, Placebo, Jack Off Jill, Patsy Cline, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Madonna. I also tend to be a voracious reader mostly leaning towards sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, but I certainly wouldn't dare to profane any of the literary genres. A few of my favorite authors include, Neil Gaiman, Poppy Z. Brite, Anne Rice, Kurt Vonnegutt, Frank Herbert, Terry Pratchett, Marrion Zimmer Bradley (though as yet I've only read Mists of Avalon it moved me so much I would feel remiss not to include her), Brian Lumley, Christopher Rice, Caitlin R. Kiernan, and Laurell K. Hamilton. I'm also a poet as the mood takes me though I wouldn't venture to say I was any good at it. I do also enjoy a good movie, and have been watching quite a few of late, but to a much lesser extent than a good book or song, and could really hardly name any favorite screenwriter/producer/directors other than perhaps Sam Raimi and Joss Whedon.

Oh, and I suppose I should mention the little things like I'm 24, and gay, and an eclectic pagan (to make it simple at least, it's really much more confusing than that, but then isn't it always?) oh and male, but none of that matters half so much as my musical and literary tastes if you were to ask me. ;)

Anyways, I suppose that's about all I can think of to put in an introduction though I'm always open to any questions if anyone can think of anything I might have left out. I hope I haven't bored you too terribly much with my egocentric prattle.

Salutations, fellow Gemini! :D

My friend Abby's gonna love you... the literary tastes are quite similar.

Welcome to KnoxVegas & try to come out for Temple or Sanctus soon!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. It is much appreciated. I'd heard about Sanctus but haven't had a chance to check it out yet. As for Temple this is the first time I've heard it mentioned, so I'll definitely have to see what it's like when I get the chance. I tend to work a lot of weekends but every once in a while I get one off so perhaps soon I'll have a chance to get out of this damnable house that I spend far too much time in.

Well, they say Gemini is the most typically human of the signs (whatever that means) so I suppose it's only fitting that we take over. ;) Not that we could be bothered to do so as we're generally too involved in whatever our newest obsession of the day is.

Well there's that, and then those Leo's and Scorpio's are just so damned cute we'd hate to ruin their belief that they rule the world. Have you ever seen a depressed Leo or a pissed off Scorpio? Scaaaaaryyyyyyy.

While I won't argue that we're crazy (pretty much every sign is in their own way). This coming from a Libra? Having been surrounded by Libra's all my life, I feel totally secure in saying the following: Pot? Kettle? Black?

I didn't say you were bat shit crazy, I just agreed that I avoid them. In my own personal experience, they are the most insane fuckers I've ever met. Not all, but MOST. That doesn't make you an insane fucker. You also didn't quote where I welcomed you to the board, despite your astrological sign. (because truly, I do not care) No, instead you chose to get all insulting. Great job n00b :P

My sincerest apologies if I came off insulting, it certainly wasn't my intention, my intent was to be playful and humorous which is what I interpreted your post as. Occasionally I forget that subtle nuances of conversation such as inflection don't carry over written media what with the whole lack of vocalization which can cause innocent comments to seem malicious. So once again I apologize for the vagueness of my comment.

Yup, that's us! But we still love you silly Aries, even while you're backing away.

I like a liberal amount of Aquarians to balance out my mix. Eccenctric goes so well with batshit crazy, I've always found. :-)

I quite agree on the Aquarian comment. They never fail to be damned interesting (also the reason I enjoy meeting other Gemini's, they're just *never* boring even if we are batshit crazy). Though of all the signs they're the ones i have the hardest time pinpointing. I mean when your sign is all about being unique and individualistic it doesn't leave very much common ground to look for. Though I have to say overall I love the fire signs the best, even though they can be selfish, catty, superficial, and stubborn, they never fail to be tons of fun. Passion and Fury can go a long way towards making a boi swoon. Though I have to admit that truly there's something fascinating about each of the signs, though certain ones scare me. Pisces and Virgo for example. I've always had this magnetism/repulsion deal going on with those two. I wonder if the fact that they're complimentary signs has anything to do with it. Ah well, I suppose I've babbled enough about astrology for one day. I can talk about it for hours without getting bored.
