The story takes place in and around New Orleans, where a group of tourists on a haunted swamp tour find themselves stranded in the wilderness, and their evening of fun and spooks turns into a horrific nightmare.

Although the concept seems to be a sort of FT13th rip, one of the taglines claims "It's not a remake. It's not a sequel. And it's not based on a Japanese one."
Good to see at least someone is trying to breath new life in the slasher genre I suppose.
Hatchet has been selected for the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival and premiers in NYC the end of this month. I guess we'll see if it gets a wide theater release or straight to video from there.
Stay out of the swamp.
