Question for all you locals.

Daniel and I have been searching vainly for a new couch, as we've just moved in and have no furniture. Salvation army, goodwill, and thrift shops have been of no use yet. We're on somewhat of a budget, but a few hundred dollars wouldn't kill us.

Does anybody know of a quality furniture store with at least semi-reasonable prices?

We found the most amazing little black love seat at Knoxville Furniture Wholesalers off of Kingston pike. It was the perfect size, the perfect price, the perfect feel. My dream couch. We bought it, and it was to be delivered a week later. So we sat on the floor for a week and thought nothing of it. The day before we were supposed to get it, the store called and said that they were terribly sorry, the model we had seen was the last one and they had accidently sold it to someone else before they sold it to us. So now we're back to square one.

Basically, I want to know of a well-priced place that's not going to do something similar to that.

Anybody know of a place? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't live in Knoxville anymore, but I would presume that auctions and yard sales are your best bet anywhere for budget furniture.

I don't know, all furniture shops seem insanely expensive. But this is coming from someone who owns all particle board furniture, lol. I recently got a couch from a cousin, but before that, I looked at Big Lots, FutonWorld, freecycle, and goodwill.

This is going to sound so retarded of me, but I hadn't even though of yard sales. Thank you! I'll be looking around the neighborhood to see if anybody's got anything good.

Usually it's very pricey, but I got an amazing deal on some furniture at American Signature homes. Just go to the very back to the damaged item section. "Damaged" to them means a miniscule scratch that you'll never even notice.

And yeah, Big Lots has some good stuff from time to time.

I haven't been to Futon World yet, but I've driven past it. Is it any good, or does it seem to be the run of the mill futons that break the second you try to fold them out? I'm more on the lookout for a couch or love seat, but I'd settle for a Futon if it were nice.

I'll keep American Signature Homes in mind. I sure as hell don't mind looking in the reduced price section. If there's one scratch or a tiny irregularity, I don't care at all. Now, the only thing else I need to ask you is...where is American Signature Homes?

It's West Knox, Kingston Pike, same shopping center as Michael's(arts/crafts) and Babies R Us.

We got our's at Rooms to Go. They tried REALLY hard to get us to get a room package. But, the couch and loveseat we got was so cozy, and the accessories they had with it were just......bad. If you don't look at their "rooms" as whole they have some good individual pieces.

Thank you so much! Ha, all we need to do is get our car out of the shop (it dropped dead on Kingston pike in the center lane - the horror!) and we'll be sure to find a nice loveseat in no time.

based on what you said in your first post about your couch problem - you stated that you had already paid for the couch and then it was sold out from under you - is that correct??? If so, then it is the burden of the furniture company to correct the problem it caused and offer you a sofa of equal or lessor value or re-order the same couch at their cost (not yours) and refund some of your cost for your time and trouble. If it were me I would demand they fix the problem and demand that I get what I paid for but that is just me. I hope you got your money back and hope you find another couch. A little advice on Futons - they are great if you can get a really good mattress (do your homework) not all futon mattress hold up and you get what you pay for. I would not recommend a wooden frame unless it is really sturdy most wooden frames I have had lasted about a year then broke. Metal frames are ok but here again if the frame is hollow tubing then depending on how you use it - it might last you two years. If you get a metal frame insist on it being solid tubing meaning the tubing is not hollow - solid tubing will cost you, weigh more but it's worth it. Hope this helps you in finding a new couch.
