Basically a resolution is up for vote at the county comission:
Morons in Knox County Comission wrote:That the Knox County Commission hereby urges all American citizens, to proclaim to every level of government (local, state and federal) its responsibility to publicly recognize God as the foundation of our national heritage, lest our nation forget and our children never know!
Be it further resolved, that this resolution is to take effect from and after its passage, as proved by the charter of Knox County, Tennessee, the public welfare requiring it.
Hurm Whatever happened to the alleged seperation of Church and State???? I find it sad that this resolution is even made it to a level to be voted on. Much less that in a non-binding vote it already has the majority to pass (10-9). This just shows how intolerant the county commission is of non-Xian religious beliefs. I DO NOT mean this as a slam on Christians! I just find it sad that these people (the "yes" votes in the commission) feel they have to dominate the goverment and therein the citizens in their religious doctrines with no thought or respect for other beliefs. Believe it or not but our countries heritage has MANY other religious groups who have a part of our founding. Just not quite so many of em. Whats next, rewrite history that the war of american independance and civil war were religious wars for God?
And I just was getting to really like living here and Knoxville again....*sigh*
This just further makes me want to run for office under the "Wild" Party. Just so I could be both a voice of reason as well as a royal pain in the ass for people who try and pull this crap.

You know, I caught a speech by Al Gore that he made recently to a bunch of these moveon.org supporters, about how we've been having a lot of our freedoms taken away since 9/11 happened ... and you know what, he's absolutely right. The things he said have absolutely scared the living daylights out of me, and this God resolution is another example of this.
We live in frightening times.

This is outrageous conduct on the part of the Knox County Commission.
Even those who believe in a god should be able to understand the tyranny of forcing their religion on others. In the past, it was considered so important as to be included in the U.S. Constitution:
Those who would try to do this are trying to turn this country into a theocracy, one potentially as bad as the current state of affairs in Saudi Arabia.

We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.

Well, at least there are nine level headed commissioners.....
Let's start the phone calls and e-mails.....
There are ten others who need a quick reality check.
Commissioner Diane Jordan, a practicing Christian, voted against it saying she does not like to impose her views on others.

this is absolutely ridiciulous and goes to show what happens when you do mix church and state.
i also found a website here just a few minutes ago condemining wiccans by the christian religion saying that:
"I personally hear from Wiccans, pagans, Satanists, Buddhists, etc.--in other words, I get just about every ingredient in the Devil's mumbo-jumbo gumbo. And each of these groups got something in common-- Lucifer. And the remarkable thing is that many of these groups actually know him by "Lucifer" or some deriviative whether the horned god, Pan (the goat-foot god), Cernunnos, Dionysos, Osiris, Bacchus, etc. The horned god is a phallic (phallic refers to a man's poo-poo) deity of fertility. Why would people worship the devil? Because he offers what they like! "Do what thou wilt shalt be the whole of the law."
it kind of made me really sad.. because in some forms and in some manners i thought we had come a long way from this... but when i see two, things in one day... it just really hit home for me. i kind feel like i am going to be sick.....

You should know this has already passed in some other counties. I've been doing some research on this. I'll post some (hopefully useful) info here in a day or two.
The firemen came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Mom were expecting them to pull out a dead cat or a bird. And instead they pulled out my father. He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He'd been climbing down the chimney... his arms loaded with presents. He was gonna surprise us. He slipped and broke his neck. He died instantly. And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus.

just remember to not all people who believe in god (mainly christians im talking about here) are like this
just the zealot morons repeating the sins of the past.
religion ++ masses == tyranny every time
fight back on their level. not only appeal to your reps, find people that have their beliefs and follow them without being a zealot and get them to do it too, they can start a countermovement others cant.
just a thought.
and yes, thats very fucked up.

Here is another story on the issue:
http://www.knoxnews.com/kns/local_news/ ... 48,00.html
This resolution has already passed in Greene county, and 94 other counties are "urging its passage."
There is another option. Dominion and I are thinking about going to the courthouse Monday night. As you probably know, these meetings are public forums. Individuals can sign up to be heard, and any civilian support is very influential upon commission decisions. It's common knowledge that more than thrity people can severly impact a decision. The best thing to do is have one intelligent spokesperson and a large supporting audience. I am not suggesting a rally- that requires a permit and organization. But I am proposing a direct representaion of people who oppose the resolution. Appearing in person would be more impressive than emails. Dominion is working on finding a good speaker, possibly from within the university. I'll post more info as soon as I can for those of you who are interested.

IMHO anyone who votes yes to this resolution needs to be removed from office, as they don't have the better intrests of knoxville in mind, only how they are gonna get re-elected at the end of their term.
And those are politicians of the kind we don't need!
ARGH!
Sorry just felt the need to rant for a moment

It's only a resolution people. It means virtually nothing. They passed a resolution to honor the owner of the Burgin dealerships. That's how little this all means.
I was listening to Hallerin Hilton Hill yesterday and even most of the Christians don't care one way or the other if it's passed because it's pretty much useless. "It's a legislative tipping of the hat" according to Hal. You can get your panties in a twist if you like, but it won't effect your lives in any way no matter which way the vote goes.
Furthermore, as I understand it, Knox County already plans to vote it down because several large groups are worried that it will offend people of other religions.
Also, I believe it's up for vote in EVERY county in Tennessee. And if you want to learn more about it, the man heading it is supposed to be on the O'Reilly Factor Thursday evening.

I suppose that if such a resolution is passed that I could sue for discrimination.....
....Not religious discrimination, of course. everyone and their brother should be doing that.
I propose that I sue them for SEXUAL discrimination because my GOD is a GODDESS.
By the way O.....What time is that meeting on Monday?

Right...I just hate how people are so close-minded nowadays...If it's not what "they" do, it's not right, and they want to MAKE everyone beleive how they beleive...it's not even about reasoning and teaching people anymore, they just want to force it on everyone.
